Finding Water

Veru marched towards the green stretch of tall trees.

The sun shone furiously, making the sand piping hot.

Luckily, he reaped everything he could from Klyne's body which also included his shoes.

Though he felt uncomfortable wearing them, they did protect his feet from the scorching sand.

Countless beads of perspiration that appeared on his forehead, dripped down to his chest.

If not for the coat that he used to cover his head, and protect from the direct harsh sun, Veru would have already fainted from a heat stroke.

Veru continued to march towards the stretch but eventually ran out of energy, as he felt his throat dry as the sand on the beach.

"Why aren't there any trees here?"

As far as he looked, he couldn't find a single tree.

"Weren't coconut trees common near the shores?"

Veru who lived his whole life near the beach was most familiar with the coconut tree.

"I want to drink, otherwise I would die of my dry throat"

He wailed.

Veru had a special place for the particular tree he was yearning for.

The coconut tree gave a versatile fruit. One could drink it; one could eat it; one could use the covering to fuel the fire. For Veru it was the king of all fruits rather than mango, which he hardly saw even once in his entire life.

Dragging his body somehow he reached the green stretch.

He walked a bit and withdrew the control of his body as soon as he reached the shade.

He rested his body on a thin turned tree.

The tree wasn't big, l and barely had any leaves, but was engulfed into the shadow of another tree that was a meter away from his tired body.

"Phew….."

He gulped down his saliva as much he could, trying to dampen his dry throat, but it barely helped his thirst.

Taking a long enough rest, he got up and looked at the tall trees.

"How are they so tall in this wasteland?"

From the moment he landed on the island, he couldn't find a single drop of water lying around. All he could see was the vast stretch of deep blue water that was too salty for him to drink.

"Why can't I drink water, even if there is so much of it near my eyes? I don't like this."

He complained and continued moving towards the inland.

The deeper he went, the darker it got.

"God, where are these trees getting water from?"

He cried looking up at the sky, as his olive eyes reflected the green canopy, through which very little sunlight peeped through.

Without saying much for the rest of his journey he continued to venture deeper into the island and eventually reaching a peculiar place that piqued his interest.

While the trees he found at the beginning were lush green here, the trees had the leaves of silver and gold instead of green.

Ben without the sunlight, he emitted a brilliant radiance that almost blinded him.

His eyes froze wide, it wasn't for the luster of the leaves, but rather the pond of transparent water.

A wide smile appeared on his face as he ran towards it, and jumped straight into it; throwing away the coat and his shirt

Splash…..

He gulped down as much as he could as if the water would disappear at any moment.

He took a deep breath and dived deep into it.

The water was transparent as it seemed to look like. He could even see the bed.

'This is the best thing that has happened to me until now!'

Diving deeper he landed on the bed and walked a bit before running out of the air to breathe.

"Ah….."

He popped out of the surface and moved his drenched face, shaking away moisture from his green hair.

Flapping his hands, he once again reached the land and came out of the pool.

Growl…..

Though the pool relieved him to his unquenchable thirst he still was facing yet another predicament.

He barely had any food since the last time, when he was hiding in the storage.

"Is there any fruit lying around here?"

He looked at his surroundings.

Tall trees with shiny leaves, and nothing else.

His eyes scoured the area and stopped suddenly as the tall branches, he couldn't easily reach without climbing.

"They look too shiny!"

He exclaimed in wonder, the fruits emitted either a golden radiance or a rainbowish sparkle.

He licked his lips as he came closer towards the tree. He looked up, "why?"

The branches were at least twice his height. "I can try to climb it, but I can't. I am too tired."

He kicked the ground in frustration, as his olive eyes widened in bewilderment.

A wide grin filled with satisfaction cropped onto his face, as he bent down and picked a reddish pulpy fruit from the ground, it was rotten, but some areas didn't look bad to him.

Veru opened his mouth wide, matching down the portion.

His eyes widened, as his body trembled.
