After visiting a few more stores, Emmeline and Louisa finally returned home. Despite being tired, the girl was happy. She had never done that sort of thing: go out to spend, without having to count the pennies. But even in the midst of happiness, Louisa couldn't think, here and there, how such a thing would make her mother smile, or how her father would love to see it there.

"Thanks for joining me, Lou. May I call you that?" Emmeline asked.

"Auntie, the lady who accompanied me and was very kind to me. I thank you. And yes, you can call me Lou."

Emmeline hugged her and told Louisa she could rest. It wouldn't be long before dinner was served. While the young woman went to her room, Emmeline went to the study, where most likely her husband was.
