Chapter 22: Infinite Darkness

Looking at the road illuminated by the car lights, Chito slowly drove the vehicle.

Although she didn't know the route, there would always be an exit if she kept driving along this road.

In line with everyone's expectations, Chito slowly looked for it. As they set off on the road, Yuuri behind them also hummed a song.

"Let's go!~Let's go!."

But after driving for a while, the surroundings were still dark, and Yuuri's lyrics also changed to, "Dark~ dark, so dark~" her singing was actually good.

However, Chito in front became angry and said, "Stop singing Yuu!."

Yuuri stopped singing, but after a while, Chito said sheepishly, "Yuu, you should continue singing, it's too quiet and scary."

"Okay, but before I continue to sing, Senju, do you know any songs?" Yuuri looked at Senju expectantly, but unfortunately it was too dark around and she didn't seem to see Senju's expression.

"Sing? I'm not very good at singing. Why don't you let me tell you about the past?" Senju had no confidence in his singing voice, so he might as well tell about the past of Earth.

"Really, what was the land like in the past?" Yuuri and Chito were both a little confused, they wanted to know what it was like before the war.

After organizing his speech, Senju began to talk about the previous world, "In the past, people lived on earth, which was made of accumulated soil. In some places, there were mountains, which were made of many stones, there were many forests on earth, with many trees and plants, and many kinds of animals..."

Listening to Senju's story, Yuuri and Chito kept asking questions, because they had heard of some terms but had no idea what they meant.

After Senju spoke for a while, it turned into a question-and-answer session between two people.

Most of what they said was understood by Senju, so he explained it to them using appropriate words.

However, if they didn't quite understand, he explained it to them based on the appearance of the words and added his own understanding.

"That's amazing, Senju, you know so many things," Chito turned around and praised Senju, the latter blushed slightly due to the compliment he was given, but just when Senju was about to be humble, there seemed to be a shadow in front of him.

When he looked up, it turned out to be something appearing in the light in front of him. It was a wall, but Chito didn't seem to see the wall due to the darkness, "Be careful, Chito, there's a wall in front of us!"

"Ah, what? Whoa!," Chito finally noticed the wall in front of her and quickly stepped on the brakes.

The two behind her swayed due to the sudden brake, and she felt relieved when she saw that she didn't hit the wall.

"Be careful, Chito. Let me drive for a while. You can take a rest." Senju wanted to help her.

But Chito didn't agree, "It's okay. I was just a little distracted. It's definitely okay."

"Don't worry, I will help Chii-chan watch the road. I have always been the one guiding Chii-chan. So far, there have been no problems."

"You, you were always sleeping," Chito complained helplessly.

"Really, hehehe," Yuuri seemed a little embarrassed, so she just sang there.

After Senju listened for a while, he wanted to teach her how to sing, but he didn't know much, and his singing was very strange.

After Yuuri practiced for a while, it felt even weirder, and Chito in front couldn't help but laugh.

"Haha, what are you singing, Yuu? It's so weird."

"This is a song. Does Chii-chan think it's weird?"

"Well, it's better than my own singing." After Chito said this, Yuuri became even more proud, and the lyrics were changed to the original tune, "Darkness~so dark~so so dark."

Accompanied by this somewhat monotonous singing, the car continued to move forward on the steel road. Although the surroundings were dark, everyone relaxed.

However, after walking for an unknown amount of time, the surroundings were still dark, and all they could vaguely see were similar scenery. Chito finally became a little discouraged, "Is there any way to get out?"

"Well, I can open gaps in the walls I encounter, so that I can go out directly," Senju suggested proudly after thinking about it for a moment. Unfortunately, the two people next to him did not agree.

"It is indeed a method, but there are no walls around it. They are all huge machines." Yuuri looked around and found that she was now in a daze.

Chito looked at the steel machines around him and rejected Senju's suggestion, "It's too dangerous. It will be harder to find the exit if you leave holes on these roads."

"Hey, that's true. Try it after you encounter a wall. Yuuri, it's up to you."

"Leave it to me." After saying that, Yuuri took out a spoon from her arms, put it on the car and started spinning it, and then told Chito after a while, "Turn left."

"There's no road over there. We're still lost. Both of your methods aren't helpful," Chito expressed her helplessness, while Yuuri appeared utterly perplexed. "No road? That's impossible!" she retorted angrily, gripping the spoon and exclaiming, "You useless guy, why did you lead me down the wrong path?"

In the front, Chito's eyes turned lifeless, shifting to fixate on Yuuri. Within the darkness, her gaze appeared to carry a faint glimmer. Startled by the glint in her eyes, Senju was quickly enveloped by a frightened Yuuri, who swiftly stashed the spoon away, offering a strained smile in Chito's direction.

Chito had no choice but to sigh and let her go. However, after driving for such a long time, Chito felt tired. However, the driving skills of the two people around him were not very good. They could not be allowed to drive this car.

"Let's take a break, Senju. Do you have any grilled fish?" Chito proposed, craving something flavorful. Senju glanced at his inventory and noticed there was some grilled fish from a few days ago, although it had dried out due to the hot temperature.

"Sure, but don't you also need to drink some water?" Senju expressed concern about the potential dryness of the grilled fish. However, Yuuri, positioned beside him, brandished a military kettle as if presenting a treasure, offering, "Here, Chii-chan, I can help with that too. Would you like some?"

"Here, everyone gets one each. Of course you have one too, Chito."

"Great, it's time to eat."

After Senju gave each person a fish, the three of them drank some water and ate grilled fish.

These strange fish were simply prepared for eating. They didn't even have fish bones inside, they just looked like fish.

Upon learning about Senju's discovery, both Chito and Yuuri expressed surprise. Did the fish still contain bones? They resolved to be more cautious in the future. Senju, inwardly exasperated, felt like flipping the table. How could they not take such a significant finding seriously?

Realizing that with bones, they could acquire an unlimited supply of food, wood, and various flowers and plants, Senju couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. Yet, ultimately, he decided to consume the fish, attempting to quell his sense of shock.

After eating the fish, everyone rested for the time being. Senju continued to talk about the past for a while. After finishing talking, everyone started to pack up again, but in this dark world, even time became blurry.

Everyone left after a period of time, they took a break to eat something and listen to Senju's story for a while. They didn't't know how long he repeated it, but it still lingered here.

Gradually, everyone feels that they have drove countless similar roads, but they can't find the way out. However, life here is still good. I only hope that such a beautiful life can continue.
