Into the Unknown: Chapter 3

I tilted my head hoping to see their face but all I saw were eyes as cold as stone hidden behind a black ski mask.

"Well? Can you speak?" Woah. Did this person really ask me that?! Their hand is over my mouth! How do they expect me to speak? I pointed to his hand.

"Oh! Sorry!" He sounded apologetic but he kept a close watch of my movements.

"I'm Lauren. I'm searching for my mom and my sister." A flood of pained memories flowed through me. I held back my tears. He took his mask off. His hair was black and the tips were red. His eyes were light blue but looked like dark blue in the dark.

"What happened? You seem upset. Oh my! I'm being so rude right now! I'm Kenneth. I live in the town nearby. I was searching for the wanted criminal and you kinda look like her from the back." Criminal?! I'm no criminal!

"I need to find them but, I'm really hungry and thirsty. I wish I had food right now. Do you know where I can get food and water?" My stomach grumbled as I said that. Wow my stomach and my mind are like in sync today, they're both empty.

"Come with me! My sister is preparing lunch!" Kenneth started to walk then gestured for me to follow.

"Where did you come from?" Kenneth asked looking down at me.

"I was born in New York but, we moved to California because my mom's a model." Kenneth looked at me puzzled. Did he never hear of New York or California?

"Where's that?" I guess I'm an alien here, I don't come from here and I don't even know if this is still earth.

"I'm from a different world called Earth." His head turned to the side. He looked confused.

"So are you an alien?" Why would I be an alien do look like one?

"Uh...no..." I shifted uncomfortably and we walked in silence. Soon enough we entered a little town, the ones described in fairy tale lands.

"Woah..." I said under my breath. Kenneth chuckled.

"It doesn't take much to impress you does it?" I looked away embarrassed. We walked up to a two stories house, it was so fascinating. The color, the structure looked so complex. We walked inside.

"Anna! I'm home! I brought a friend!" Kenneth yelled as we entered the house. The outside may have looked modern and all but the interior decoration was way beyond their time. Anna walked gracefully towards us, she was really pretty. She had the same light blue eyes as Kenneth but she had brownish red hair.

"Hi, I'm Lauren." I stuck my hand out to shake hers.

"Hello, Lauren. Nice to meet you." She said shaking my hand. Then guided me and Kenneth to the kitchen. The kitchen smelled so delightful, the food on the table was minimal but it seemed to be all they could afford. I looked around and a framed picture caught my eye. I picked it up, I saw two older people a woman and a man.

"Who are they?" I asked pointing to the framed picture in my hand. Kenneth looked away and Anna looked at me. Her eyes seemed to fill with tears.

"My parents... they went to see the king and queen last year but they never returned." I looked at them, I felt bad. I knew how it felt I lost my mom and my sister and my father left. It really hurt to know that these poor kids had to live on their own. My situation didn't seem as bad but I wanted to help.

"I lost my family. I hope I can find them. My dad left and my mom and sister disappeared. I was hoping they're in this world. I want to find them or I might have to live on my own." I loomed around hoping they wouldn't notice the tears in my eyes. I blinked the tears back.

"Wow. We really have it easy, we have each other but you have to live off yourself. We'll help you find your mom and sister. I promise." Anna was so sweet it already seemed like she was an older sister figure to me. I looked at the picture again, the father in the picture looked like my dad. It was!!! I looked at Anna.

"Anna, why does your dad look like my dad?" I showed her my locket. She examined the two pictures closely. She shook her head in disbelief.

"Welcome to his line of torture. I guess he's a player. I mean we always assumed that but, we kept quiet. Then one day my mom found out and started to argue with him." Someone knocked on the door. I walked over to open the door. It was my dad. How did he get into this world?! Why couldn't he have left my life for good?! Once he got a good look at my face he said, "Hello little girl. Is Anna and Kenneth home?" I stared at him.

"Yes but none of us want a father figure like you. You use women as if they were your barbie doll to manipulate." He acted as if nothing happened but I recognized him the suitcase everything.

"Get out of the way bratty little girl. I want to see my children!" He pushed me aside and went to hug Anna and Kenneth. They pushed him away.

"Get out. No one wants you here. Not after you abandoned us." He looked at me.

"Lauren, take me back as your father please." I scoffed. First, he claims to not know me. Now he wants me to call him dad again?!

"No. You left. No way. Even if I can't find Alice and mom I will keep searching and I will survive on my own or with their help." He gave me a cold stare.

"You will regret this Lauren. I will get my revenge. Watch me. Same for you Anna and Kenneth."
