“What do I do until then? Wander the streets? Go sit in the library?”
“No. You’re coming back to my place. We can research Merrick while we wait.”
Ryan swallowed hard as panic raced through him. I can’t. I can’t go to his…his house or apartment. What if he…? What if he pulls something like Merrick did? He wouldn’t though, would he? But how do I know? How can I be sure? He shivered, touched his ribs, feeling them twinge.
“Damn, Ryan,” Shaun said, apparently having seen some of his fear in his expression. “All I want is for you to be safe, and there’s no way he’s going to know you’re at my house.” When he started to reach for Ryan’s hand, Ryan shrank into the corner of the seat. “Ryan, don’t,” Shaun said quietly. “I’m not going to hurt you. I meant it when I said I want you safe. That’s all I want. To protect you from the bastard.”
