Chapter 63

“Gobble it down. Right.” Ryan got his hoodie, put what he needed in the pocket, then went down to eat.

“Going somewhere?” Miss Gina asked when he appeared in the dining room.

“Yep. Shaun’s picking me up so I can get my driver’s license, to replace the one I lost.”

“Are you going to have them send it here?”

“I can’t. According to Shaun, if I change the address from the one they have on file, it’ll take forever to get the new one.”

“Sounds like the government,” she replied, shaking her head as he sat down.

That, of course, got everyone talking about the various governmental bureaucracies they’d had to deal with. Jim Thompson had just finished amusing them with an experience he’d gone through when the doorbell rang. Miss Gina went to answer, coming back with Shaun in tow. Ryan has finished eating by then, so he took his dishes to the kitchen, put on the hoodie and his watchcap, and he and Shaun went out to the car—after Shaun assured him no one was watching the house.
