Chapter 50
“I’m driving you over there,” Shaun told him, “so keep it on.”
“Why?”
“So you won’t freeze?” Shaun helped him to his feet. “And so I can interview you.”
Ryan hobbled beside him as they walked to the squad car, gripping Shaun’s arm. He’d left the bedspread where it was. He didn’t want anything belonging to Merrick. Nothing! Shaun held the door open for him, waited until he was in the passenger seat, then went around to get into the car. After turning it on, he called in to say he was transporting ‘the victim’ to the hospital.
Ryan leaned back, closing his eyes, as Shaun drove out of the alley. For the first time in the last few days, he felt safe. If Shaun meant what he said, and they won’t tell Merrick I was at the hospital, if he calls or comes by.
