He looked them over one more time before leaving the studio. From there, he stopped back at the apartment to change clothes then headed to work.
For the next three weeks, every waking moment of Ryan’s days, from the time he arrived at Merrick’s house around eight in the morning, until he had to go to work, were spent on his project. The only exceptions were on the weekends and his days off. Merrick would appear in the studio around noon Saturday and Sunday, silently watching while Ryan worked. At some point, usually around two, Merrick would insist that Ryan stop and eat a late lunch with him before leaving for the restaurant. On Ryan’s days off, he’d come up for air after Merrick arrived home from work and came into the studio.
“You need some down time,” Merrick had explained the first Saturday, when Ryan had tried to protest. “Do not quarrel with me.”
