Chapter 34

Diya turned to look at the faces of the people she hates the most. Manav, Diya's ex-boyfriend, and Ananya, Diya's ex-best friend, were clinging to each other with smug looks.

"Yeah, although I wish I didn't have to." Diya swung around clearly showing her disinterest in them. Ananya snickered, "You're still the same. Come on babe.". "Assholes," Kaia muttered under her breath watching them taking the seats that were right in front of them.

Diya tried her best to ignore them. She didn't want the painful memories to haunt her again when she was already in a pickle with her marriage. Talking about marriage, where is this Ajay?!

"As everyone's here, shall we start?" she heard sounds of applause and cheering to the host's question. The dishes arrived and everyone started to dig in. The atmosphere was quite pleasant until Diya heard someone tapping their glass.

Just as she expected, she saw Ananya standing up. "Good evening everyone. I'm so happy to see you all again and the growth of each one of you amazes me. I just wanted to say that tonight's dinner is on us.". There was thunderous cheering after that. Diya raised an eyebrow. 'What is she planning now?'.

"Manav recently got accepted as a web developer by AJ Empire. We all know that AJ Empire is one of the top IT companies in Asia. I'll take this opportunity to say that I'm very proud of my baby and thank you for being my boyfriend.". Ananya's staring at Diya was so obvious that it made everyone awkward. Manav and Diya's past relationship was not a secret after the commotion that Ananya created in their high school once.

Kaia was so furious that she wanted to throw the plate at her face. "And Diya, congratulation on your marriage. I heard that you're bringing your husband with you. Where is he?" Ananya was smirking.

Diya didn't show any expression on her face but she was fuming inside. Kaia and Ravi were about to fire back but she stopped them. "Don't.". "But Diya-" Ravi was about to say something when Ananya opened her mouth to escalate the situation.

"Oops. Are you guys not on good terms? Did you really marry a stranger just because of your mother? How sad.". Diya wanted to punch that fake sad face of hers at that moment. 'How the hell did she find out?'. She decided not to keep her silence anymore.

Just as Diya was going to question her, she heard a familiar voice from behind her. "I didn't know my wife's personal life was tonight's main topic.". She turned around and came face to face with Ajay.

Ajay bent down to Diya's level; placed his hands on her shoulders and whispered, "I'm sorry. I got stuck in the traffic and the line was terrible so I couldn't send you any messages or call you. Are you okay?". From the other's angle, it looked like they were kissing.

Diya nodded her head at him. She was still angry at him but she need to deal with Ananya first.
