Ignited

"Female… what are you called?" A light, hesitant, female voice says in my head. I freeze, my head going a thousand miles an hour, Holy Macaroni and Chicken Nuggets! I stare at the creature and it's staring at me intently. I must be going crazy, I shake my head and the creature squints its eyes, slightly.      "You heard me?" The same voice says in my head. Without thinking, I nod in response. The thing releases a face of surprise, it's eyes widening, its muscles relaxing a teeny bit. I keep my eyes taped on it, or I'm guessing her. I'm so surprised that I can't speak, so… I try to speak in my mind back, "Umm… Hello? Yeah, I can hear you? whatever you are… No offense."  I really don't want to get this thing mad. It looks even more bewildered when I'm guessing it hears me.  "Hello, as I was asking, what is it the humans call you?" I hesitate when she asks this, I just met this creature, closely reminding me of a dragon. Like, two minutes ago, should I trust her? Then I realize, I thought that out loud.  "You can trust me, no one knows about me. By the way, yes  I'm a dragon. The answer to your last question." I think of what Chris said earlier, "… or a dragon perhaps…" No, Chris has a funny imagination, maybe it's just a coincidence. Yeah he really doesn't believe in dragons…. does he? "I'm Samantha, my friends call me Sam. What's your name?" The dragon's eyes smile slightly, glad that I chose to trust her. "My name…" she says in my head, hesitant, "is Emberlynn." A mix of fantasy, romance, coming of age, and adventure. Authors note: Hope you all like it and ALL comments/suggestions/ideas are welcome. also I'm trying to decide if this should be a trilogy or not. *need help on that* if you could, THANKS A BUNCH! ^-^

Ch.17: Excitement

Sam

"Sam, you okay?" My dad says from the door. I stumble to find a new shirt. My wings are still open, I need to figure out how to hide them fast! They still ache from what happened and how am I going to explain my blue eyes now?

"Yeah, Dad! I'm just going to take a shower! I say trying to ignore my shaky, hoarse voice hoping that he can't hear it through the door. I stay still as a mannequin as Dad decides if he should leave or not.

"Okay… Be careful, and take it easy! I'm just letting you know that I'm going to dinner with my boss. There's some cereal or leftover sushi if you're hungry…" I hear him say hesitantly. I smile and my stomach growls at the thought of sushi. I think about my Dad and me going out to a sushi restaurant when I was about seven or eight. But we stopped after I started asking about her one time when we ate out, he tried to explain it in a way that didn't make him cry, but he failed. Soon he was balling all over and just gave up explaining completely. I miss my mom a lot.

"Alright, thank you, Dad!" I manage to finish, the same tugging, stretching feeling comes back, I glance at the mirror and see that the wings have disappeared in a way but the spot of scales on my back is still there. I exhale softly out of relief. I take off my clothes, wrap a towel around me, and dash to the bathroom, thankfully and fortunately, across the hall from my room. I quickly shut the door, lock it, and turn on the shower. Hoping to tell my Dad that I was telling the truth but… nope! I wasn't, I'm not going to take a shower now! Not when I just got wings, I can't help it! I just gotta fly! I wait 10 minutes after I hear the garage open and close.

When I'm certain that Dad's not coming back for a bit. I rewind the last 15 minutes, I dash back to my room, get dark blue skinny jeans and a white long sleeve with a deep v neck on, grab my shoes and get a bag so I can bring an extra pair of clothes. I run downstairs and quickly stuff the leftover sushi in the microwave and get my shoes on while waiting. The microwave beeps and I fetch it and run outside, and stop to think. I regrettably should've thought this earlier. Where should I go? Maybe I could go to the meadow where Chris took me a few days ago, it feels like yesterday when I was there. Maybe I should tell Chris? Maybe I shouldn't?... Eeny Meeny Miny Mo…? … Catch a Tiger by the Toe… okay, I'm going alone and if I'm going there, I should stop by Em. She could give me helpful flying hints!
