The abandoned bride

Sophia received a text from Liam. She was shocked after reading it and couldn't believe it for a few seconds.

"I don't want to marry you Sophia. I am in love with someone else. Don't pester me anymore."- Liam

She stood there holding her phone and her face had lost all its color. She was truly devastated and couldn't believe that Liam could do something like this.

She quickly dialled his number and it rang for a long time but no one picked up and got disconnected afterwards. She dialled again with shaking hands and this time it was picked up after a few rings.

Before Sophia could say anything she heard a voice from the other end which wasn't Liam's.

"What's wrong with you? Can't you just understand the human language? Stop your antics and don't bother him ever again.", spoke a female voice which wasn't foreign to Sophia. It was her so-called friend Jessica.

Sophia felt even more hurt hearing Jessica on the other end.

"How come you two are together?", She asked still hoping everything was a stupid joke.

"Oh come on Sophia, don't act so stupid. You should understand why we both are together. If you still don't them let me tell you he has been with me since years. He never liked you. So get over yourself. Will you?", Jessica said in sheer mockery, enjoying Sophia's prideful self stumbling in front of her.

Jessica always felt jealous of Sophia. Sophia Miller became 'the Campus Belle' of the college as soon as she joined. Although she was very reserved and didn't make much friends but everyone in college knew her for her good looks and excellent grades.

Sophia always carried herself with grace and had a noble aura surrounding her. Jessica became her friend just because she wanted to see her true self. When the scandal broke out in college, Jessica felt happy internally, gloating in her misfortune.

Jessica thought she was after all nothing but a promiscuous women but when the matter was clarified she was again slapped in the face.

Later she got to know about Sophia's family background and she was fuming in jealousy. How could life be so unfair? Then she thought of seducing Liam after he proposed Sophia. It was easier than she thought.

Sophia was an old school. She didn't let Liam get close to her. She at max let him hold hands, hug her or kiss her cheeks. Liam was frustrated but never showed it in front of Sophia and when Jessica gave him hints he took it very easily. He even spilled the beans that he was with Sophia because of her family background only. He didn't love her at all.

For years, Jessica has been laughing at Sophia's stupid self who thought Liam Wilson loved her. Sophia was really blind to not see the truth that was right in front of her eyes.

Today she got the chance to make Sophia have her life's biggest loss and she took it. She called Liam yesterday night to her apartment and they spent all night drinking and indulging themselves in intimacy. Liam passed out because of the alcohol he consumed. Now Sophia would become a laughing stock for being abandoned on her wedding day.

Sophia heard the mockery in Jessica's voice and she knew she has been deceived for a long time. Emily tried to tell her many times, not to trust Jessica but she thought she was her friend and didn't care much about her occasional bitchy words.

Now she understood that she has lived in her own world for years and looked at the things around her with tinted glasses. She never saw the truth and maybe she would have realised it long ago but she was too busy in trusting the people around her, that she ignored everything else.

Sophia hung up the call and sat on the bed in the room, feeling her legs go weak. She sat there thinking about the first time she met Liam and everything following that day. His proposal, his sweet words. Everything was fake. It was all an act. Every memory crumbled in front of her eyes.

Inside the venue everyone was mumbling among themselves not finding the groom anywhere. Mr. Wilson was still trying Liam's phone but wasn't able to have a contact with him. He was feeling very angry now.

Mrs. Wilson on the other hand scoffed in her mind looking at her husband being anxious, she was laughing like maniac internally.

Anna and Edward walked towards them. "Where is your son Mr. Wilson? Don't tell me he never planned to appear at all and this was just some stunt you pulled to humiliate us.", Edward said with angry eyes. Although he wasn't angry at Liam not being his son-in-law but he was angry for his daughter. Sophia would be very sad facing such a situation. He didn't even know how she would handle herself.

"We are trying to contact him too Mr. Miller. Trust me we have no idea where he is. We were very sincere with the marriage proposal and were looking forward to this alliance.", Mr. Wilson said with sincerity and tried to explain himself fearing the revenge of Millers.

"It better be true. Call your son as soon as possible. The guests won't wait here forever. Don't let the auspicious time fly away.", Edward said with warning and left holding Anna's hand.

Meanwhile, Sophia composed herself and stood up. She has to think about her family now. They still have no idea what has conspired here. The reputation of her family was at stake, she couldn't not do anything. But what can she do?

Sophia walked out of the room and went towards the back door. She has to think of something. 'Only if I could find someone who could marry me today', an impulsive thought came to her mind.

She was still engrossed in her thinking that she didn't see where she was walking and stumbled when she collided with someone. She was about to land on the floor and closed her eyes fearing the pain from the fall.

But the pain did not come and she was held by the waist by someone.
