Maybe she was right.7
I did not see Rabi the next day, as Margaux and I had planned a train trip to Seville, about an hour away. The following morning, I caught sight of him as we were having breakfast. I deliberately did not make eye contact with him, as his boss was nearby. But once when I looked up, there he was a couple of tables away, helping some people who were checking out with their suitcases, and he was looking right at me. Our eyes locked for a moment, but I looked down and tried to ignore him. His boss was watching him closely.
The following morning, not wanting a repeat of that, Margaux and I went to a café for breakfast. But when we returned to our rooms, there he was in the hallway. It was impossible to avoid him.
“Have you been trying to ignore me? Have you changed your mind about me staying with you?”
