56 I don't want him to waste that power by becoming a pirate

I have a hunch that Garp already knew about Shanks, and he may indeed have had something to do with Shanks' arrival to East Blue. This is because Garp came to Foosha village shortly after Shanks left, and his goal was also quite surprising.

"Hey, Garp, are you sure about this?" Makino asked in disbelief because Garp suddenly came home and immediately told her. He wanted to take Luffy to Marineford.

"Yeah, now that I know that boy is devil fruit user, I don't want him to waste that power by becoming a pirate."

At the moment, Makino and Garp were conversing in the Partys Bar, both of them having the place to themselves. The atmosphere in this place also happened to be quiet, so they started talking about many things. Makino, who was still not satisfied, then said:

"Isn't being a marine much more dangerous, after all not all pirates are bad people, what about Shanks and his crew who came here a while ago?"

When Garp heard Shanks's name being mentioned again, he made a face that was a little bit out of character for him. In the end, while he was scratching his head, he laughed and then said:

"Yeah, I already knew that red-haired brat wouldn't do something as dishonorable as plundering a small village, so you can't really compare."

"Oh, so you knew that the red hair pirate was coming to this village? why didn't you rush back and catch him then?"

"Don't make a big deal out of that insignificant detail. after all, the only thing I knew about the red-haired pirate was that he visited East Blue. I had no idea that he would also visit this village."

Observing the middle-aged man in front of her become increasingly anxious, with beads of sweat beginning to form on his forehead, Makino continued to have a sceptic attitude. Nevertheless, she took a few deep breaths before responding:

I don't mind if Luffy can live a safer life because he became a marine, but I don't think that will happen, so I beg you, Garp, to raise Luffy's rank as high as you can. Please."

"bwahahaha... that depends, even if he is my grandson, I won't give him any special treatment, so if he can prove it to me, I won't hesitate to recommend him either."

When Makino saw how hard Garp was laughing, she was initially a little annoyed, but after hearing his explanation, she realized that Garp was just a stubborn old man with the spirit of a true marine.

"what did you two say?"

The sudden appearance of Luffy's voice beside them caused Makino and Garp to experience a momentary startlement, and Makino exclaimed out of the blue, "Luffy! You startled me, what about your training? Why do you get an early start and head home?"

While Luffy was drinking the orange juice that Makino had given him, he said, "Yeah, since Grandpa is here so I decided to spend more time with him."

*slap

"bwahahaha... what's is going on, why are you all of a sudden being so conscientious, did you hit your head again?"

Before Luffy could respond, Makino, who had just suddenly remembered something, asked in surprise, "By the way, Luffy, where is Uta, why don't you come home with her?"

"Oh, that girl was walking very slowly, so I left her because I didn't want to wait..." In the middle of his explanation, Luffy then looked towards the entrance of the bar, and just at that moment, Uta came in with unsteady footsteps, her face was also red as if she was sick, but Makino, who was familiar with this situation, immediately knew what was going on.

"Luffy, you scumbag, you abandoned me again...why don't you help me...don't you realize how painful it is to go through with this...?"

Uta made her way over to Luffy slowly before taking a seat next to him. As she lowered her bottom onto the chair, she made a faint groaning sound, which Luffy could pick up on. After that, Uta made sure to ask Makino for a glass of water, and for some reason, when she was talking to Makino, she found herself using a more polite tone.

"Hey, girl, are you really Shanks' adopted daughter?" asked Garp curiously, because even though he had been close and familiar with Shanks for a long time, he still couldn't believe that Shanks suddenly adopted an adopted daughter and took her sailing with him.

"Shut up, old geezer, how many times have I told you that I am Shanks' adopted daughter, and besides, what is the Vice Admiral doing here?"

Uta then hurriedly drank the glass of water that Makino gave her, acting like someone who had gone on a long journey. She finished the glass of water in one gulp, and her drowsy face gradually began to restore its brightness.

"hmph, I've also already told you many times that I'm Luffy's grandfather, so I have the right to come here," Garp replied with a hint of irritation.

"Oh, yeah, I forgot you said that. it's no wonder you two have similar personalities. you guys are just as annoying."

"Hey, Luffy are you sure you want to take this girl with you, to be honest I don't want to take her to the marine base."

After placing the empty glass on the table, Luffy turned to look at Garp, smiled, and said nonchalantly, "Grandpa, you better be grateful I want to come with you. After all, I'm not only going to bring Uta, but I decided to bring Makino as well."

Makino, who heard that, was taken aback because Luffy had never told her about this before. But, before Makino could question Luffy, Garp had already smacked Luffy in the head with his fist and yelled angrily:

*smack

"What are you saying! Listen, Luffy. Even if you refuse, I will still drag you. I will make sure that you have the discipline necessary to serve in the marines and that you can respect your grandfather."

Even though it appears that Luffy is grimacing in pain while rubbing his head, the truth is that he is pretty surprised on the inside. 'The pain I'm feeling has really reduced a lot. I think it's thanks to the training I've been doing, but I know that the biggest factor is the devil fruit I ate.'
