Awakened Powers

The voice had spoken with the least amount of consideration as if nothing had happened to me.

'Won't I be able to move again?' I thought, filled with regret for my actions. The only good sign was that I could think straight. I thought I had been disqualified from the test and would be discharged from the Academy in due time. A part of me liked it, and so I closed my eyes in relief.

"Stand up or I'll kill you. Someone above my rank can't be here lying on the floor in defeat!" A voice resounded.

I opened my eyes, surprised at the sight of Kyrie's blood-lusted presence.

Why did he still act that way? It puzzled me, but eventually, I arrived at a deduction. Mine was instant yet, it took the gas a considerably large amount of time to settle in Kyrie's body although I had no clue what the cause was.

[Anyone who decides to give up before time will not be discharged but rather, killed after the 12 hours elapse. So go off and train]

My eyes widened, reckoning the words of the voice. I held tightly onto life, sweat streaming down my forehead. My hair obstructed my eyes but my will kept me going.

After a couple of pushes and gruesome stress, my feet eventually lifted and my body emerged a slightly tall figure in the room. Why was I able to stand? It felt like everything in the room was based solely on willpower.

I looked at my open palms and raised my head to see Kyrie. He had run off with the others to a door tagged [100-149].

"I guess that's my queue to leave too."

I headed to the door tagged [50-99]. It shone like silver and glittered beyond comprehension. Beyond it was a single bright light, extending to the right like a gate to heaven. Those within that range walked slowly to the door, antisocial as ever.

We were all teenagers after all and some of us were still affected by the serum. We had no reason to converse with psychopathic people. I smiled as I walked in, accepting my fate as a participant in the test.

I walked past the door welcomed by a long walk to my room. The first door was numbered 50 and to the right, there were other doors placed in order of ascension.

I walked tiredly as I was being pushed by others running to their doors. The entire room was painted in white while the doors had a dark wooden-brown hue. The numbers were engraved on the doors.

After a short yet gruesome walk, I finally glanced at my door in the distance. I was filled with excitement, raising my face and staggering to it with what little strength I had left.

I pushed the door slightly, and a flat dark screen at the extent of the room caught my eye immediately.

"Don't tell me these guys will be disrupting my sleep with messages. At least there aren't any cameras." I sighed and looked to the right of the screen where the camera was kept in plain sight, a cause of deep sorrow.

I entered the room and shut the door. I jumped on the bed and immediately sunk into its soft embrace.

"It's been forever since I felt this comfort." I felt soothed as the air conditioner magically turned on making me feel even more comfortable.

I never knew such high-class treatment was provided in such a place. All I had seen previously were uncomfortable floors, smelling rooms, and a deformed robot.

[You've been provided with a manual. Check the top right shelf in the room. It will help you better understand your powers]

"Huh? What was that voice?" I asked myself. It was a female voice but different from the one that spoke to the teenagers in the room. It also didn't seem like it was from the TV or even the room.

It felt like it was an imagination, and it wasn't farfetched. The TV was still blank and the walls didn't seem to have any hidden speakers. They were too thin to even have one and the thin nature deprived privacy of students which was a major disadvantage.

Nevertheless, I stood up and walked to the shelf at the top corner of the room. Raising my heels, I reached for what seemed like a textbook covered with dust.

I picked it up, dusted it, and opened it on a desk. I pulled the chair back as I flipped to the first relevant page, then I sat down.

'An interesting start.' I thought, flipping through a lot of pages at once. The pages after Page 11 were blank.

A voice rushed into my head; the exact one that instructed me to grab the textbook.

[You must fully grasp previous concepts before opening this chapter.]

Assuming it was a new chapter with completely new concepts, I flipped back to the first chapter eager to unfold the secrets of the book.

I smiled, eating some bags of chips I found behind the book on the shelf as I read.

[Chapter 1: Awakening your power...

The first power you have obtained is an auxiliary power to support your main power. It is noteworthy that the auxiliary power you supposedly possess right now is useless at the moment and will not help in any battle.]

I was already interested in the chapter as I read through it, rubbing my fingers on the text. I flipped the page and saw something that caught my interest even more.

[Chapter 1.2: Knowing your power...

It must be evident that your power is based on will, meaning that with enough will to obtain your chosen skill, you will be granted that skill.

The Awakening Serum, once injected into the body, chooses your Awakening Power for you. It is your call to find out the power that was assigned to you by the serum.]

It was time to think, and I picked up my fingernails and began chewing. It was an awful habit of mine that left the ladies disgusted after a few days of friendship. Not only was it unappealing to the girls, but it left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Yet, it was still my only option in times of intense thought. I read through the page and the list of Awakened Powers went on for three pages. There was super strength, reincarnation, transmigration, luminous manipulation, and much more. I didn't know the worth of any of these, and naturally, I paid little attention to them.
