Chapter 10

"Coming up on tonight's news, updates on the cave in trapping forty miners in the west coast and the efforts to get them out."

While the news played in the background, Jason was currently building a car model out of popsicle sticks. Beside him, Lala who was originally focused on helping him was now focused on the television. A sad look crossed her eyes as she heard that despite their best effort the miners chances of survival were very slim.

"Hey, Lala, can you hand me the sandpaper?" Jason asked but didn't hear a reply.

Turning his head he looked at Lala who was focused on the news. It was news about the cave in, due to an accident. From what is speculated, a minor earthquake hit the area causing the walls to cave causing it.

"Hey Jason." Lala finally said. "Couldn't you go help them?"

"I could but I could also make things worse. Isn't it better to leave it to the experts?" Jason replied.

If he bulldozes his way through, he could cause a cave in where the miners are located. Which would make his effort and everyone else's be in vain. He would rather leave it to the experts to handle the matter.

"What about James? Didn't you say he used to be a hero? How could he just sit still?" Lala asked, more curious than blaming.

"It hurts him more because he can't. Despite our use of powers, his powers are slowly waning and with his advanced age. He isn't as strong as he used to be." Jason slowly explained after debating it with himself if he should tell her his father's secret. "Besides, it is part of the deal with my mother. While he can keep his powers as he raises me, he can't become the hero he once was again while in this universe."

While his father will always be way above normal men and still have his powers. His overall strength and speed is declining from when he was in his prime. An example is If he could once lift an island with a single hand, then now he would have trouble lifting the same island.

'Well it isn't like Father can't return to his prime, but he says he is old and should at least attempt to look the part.' Jason thought to himself.

"There must be some way to help. They must have a family waiting for them." Lala asked.

Jason could feel Lala desire to help and her kindness radiating from her. She had a strong desire to help and make as many people happy if she could. Even if she didn't know them well or at all.

Finally, unable to bear seeing his friend's sad look. He decided to change it.

"Do you have a machine that can dig stable tunnels by itself?"

Rubbing her chin, Lala snapped her fingers as if an idea hit her. Running outside, Lala pulled out her phone which could act as a storage device for all her inventions. Materializing before them was a large drill attatect to a metal box.

The drill was in the shape of a large yellowish-white metal mole that had the all familiar deviluke symbol on the side. Its eyes were clear as they were windows showing a small control room behind them.

Pulling out her almighty tool once more, Lala gained a determined look as her tool transformed.

"Give me thirty minutes." She was clearly determined.

--

Flying in the sky as he carried the large drill towards the mine in question. He could hear Lala chatter in his ear piece as she began instructing him on how to activate the drill. Arriving in a few minutes due to his speed, Jason looked down.

He could see the rescue crews working hard in hope of getting them out. Scanning the area, he hoped to find a decent spot to set the drill down. As for the miners, he used x-ray and saw that they were mostly fine. Only a few bangs and bruises, but otherwise still fine and will survive.

Soon he spotted a good spot and flew down in the blink of an eye. Setting the large drill down, he quickly followed Lala's instruction. Punching in according to Lala's instruction, it was soon ready to start.

"Now just press the start button." Lala's voice entered his ear.

Clicking the button, Jason shot up into the sky and watched in interest. The drill carved away the ground as if it was butter. The legs patted the ground while robotic arms came out of the side adding support as it went along. Within twenty minutes a tunnel was formed which would allow the workers to walk out.

"Well done Son. How does it feel to become a hero?" James' voice transmitted across Jason's earpiece.

"I'm not really a hero though. Lala did the work and I just delivered it." Jason countered as he watched the tunnel.

Soon the first miner walked out. He was a relatively short man wearing a yellow hard hat and reflective vest. The man, like most of those following him, were covered in dirt as they began exiting the tunnel.

In the man's hand was the drill that was shrunken down and out of power. While happiness and joy filled his face due to finally being rescued. Confusion was also apparent as it wasn't a rescue team but an unknown strange drill.

Deciding it was time to leave, Jason swooped down faster than the eye could see and retrieved the drill before heading home. His mission was done and there was no need for him to stay.

"Son, every hero begins somewhere. We aren't born to be a hero but are made through the choices we make." James replied calmly.

'I'm not a hero though. I just didn't want to see Lala sad anymore.' Jason thought to himself. It was purely a selfish reason for why he did this.

--

An hour later on the news, there was an update of the cave in. There they told of a mysterious drill that appeared and dug out a tunnel for them. Which brought an end as all the miners were rescued and expected a full recovery.
