Chapter 13 - I don't know what to say

I can hear it, the sound of plasma, and the growls of the flood. The doors open, and I slowly make my way through. when I get to the side I hear banshees in the air. I see them as the banshee release plasma blasts on the flood, quickly pelting them with regular plasma fire after. "shit," I curse, I can't run through at all, looking at how quickly they're dealing with the flood, the covenant got the hang of dealing with them. Near to me, one of the elites kills the last flood creature in our area with his energy sword, and notices me. "human," he says, and the grunts next to him point their weapons at me. I try to back up, but I back into another elite, in a panic I fall to the floor as I turned around.

He laughs at me, and motions for me to follow, seeing I had no choice, I do. He leads me through their forces, as most of them look at me, and jeer. The rest of them keep an eye out for more flood, but glance at me from time to time. As we near the middle of the bridge the elite starts talking, "long way from home human, the demon has shared information that the holy land will kill us all." I glance at him, and sigh, "we are food for those monsters, the holy land kills it's food". he laughs, before replying, "because of that, some of our brothers betrayed us, will you give us an answer human? After all human, we are enemies, why would the demon help US?"

We keep moving through to the end of the bridge, as we get to the door, I hear plasma fire from the other side. I stop as I get a bad feeling, seeing my actions to the noise, he motions for me to go in, "Get ready human, you will be their prey." I look at him, and ask, "and the answer your looking for?"

He looks at me and says, "the current leader of these heretics is a friend. You, and the Demon will show me wether this is truly the path to the great journey, or if the prophet is blind to what the holy land truly is, if you run, know we will hunt you down to the end." I look at him, I don't know what to say, so I say nothing, I just take out some grenades and keep them in hand as I go in. Thinking I'll need more, I switch over my backpack to the front, it hampers my movement, but I'll have quick access to the grenades.

I go through the corridors as he follows behind me, a few grunts ahead of us are running in with their plasma grenades activated as the flood tackles them. The explosions kill many of them, but many more come through. I pull the pins and throw 2 of them, I do the same again before taking out my pistol. I quickly shoot at the center killing one of the flood, while killing another right after, I grab a few more grenades as I hear them coming, throwing two more as I take out my second pistol.

I keep firing with them, killing the closest to me, while the covenant behind me fire as well. The grunts, and elites pelt them with plasma, allowing me enough time to get my magazines ready. Their leader tells me to move forward, so I keep shooting till I run out, and reload.

I holster one of my pistols as I pull the pins and throw the grenades further inside, I try to get more, but I realize that I ran out of regular grenades. quick in my action, I start using my plasma grenades. The growls start to lessen, but afraid of what might be there I throw 2 plasma grenades while keeping my pistol on the ready. The elites use me as their bait, as I push in from their orders, I don't see anymore flood at the moment, but I keep myself in alert. the smell of gun powder, and burned flesh is strong as it starts to overwhelm me. I feel nauseated to the smell, but ignore it thinking more would come. as we enter to the center, a bloated flood creature comes out, I quickly shoot it as its skin ruptures releasing the small parasites. I shoot as quickly as possible as the covenant kill the rest.

I look around, but I don't see anymore in our area, but I can still hear their growls, I move forward once again as we reach the ramp down, I throw two plasma grenades. which flood creatures immediately come out swarming us. Seeing that there were too many of them I only got a couple of shots in before one of them slammed their arm into me, I feel my ribs break further from the impact as I was sent flying past the elites. The elites back away immediately, as the flood go after them, their quick actions saved them from being overrun, as they hold them off, the leader kills quickly kills some of them with his sword, but struggles as more come out, the flood ignore me for some reason, but since I was laying on the floor, I likely looked dead to them, I honestly don't know. I struggle to breathe as I look up, seemed like the last of the flood passed me.

I struggle to get up, the pain as I feel what is my ribs poking at my sides, while breathing in gasps. I try to get my sniper, as I hold it with what little strength I had left, I shoot at the flood nearest to me, missing twice before one of my bullets kills two. I smile at the shot as I kill two more before running out, I look down at my backpack but it's contents are all over the floor, I look for my pistol but it's in the middle of the fight as they get further away from me, feeling something wet on my face, I look down only to see blood again.
