Chapter 13

“What will you have us do?” Flaithri asked, stepping forward to hand Cato a blade.

Cato had assumed that the tools would have been rudimentary at best. He had observed how the druids sent by Boudicca’s father preferred the use of herbs and only used blades to cut off parts of the body.

“For now, Flaithri, I must have space to work,” Cato replied, not looking up from Boudicca’s unconscious body.

He would save her. Conflicting thoughts ran through his head. He needed to get back to Costa. To tell him about the betrayal, but for that, he would need the proper details. He also felt himself wanting to heal Boudicca out of his desire to see her alive.

Once he’d finished preparing all the blades, Cato poured some of the Curmi, the local alcoholic beverage, onto the wound. Boudicca’s body tensed but didn’t buck out of control. He held her shoulders down until the pain subsided and turned to Flaithri.
