Ch. 31 Contemplating.

After that disastrous first class, Lockhart was under scrutiny and the person who was most upset was Snape.

Lockhart tried to reduce the damage that has been caused by his failure. His reputation really dipped quite a bit. So to combat it he literally stripped any demonstrations involving any creature and just stuck to his stories about how he defeated banshees and whatnot.

But there were still some people who believed in his accomplishment namely the majority of the girls in the school. Who were still dreamy eyed about him. While everything seemed normal on the surface, but reality couldn't be far from it. I have been hearing the faint voice of the murderous snake.

Looks like Ginny has been talking to Voldy. I am sure that the string of "accidents" are about to begin. I was sitting at the study table with the group. From the previous year, the study group has now again expanded. Astoria, Luna and Ginny also joined the group… Well, Ginny was there to hang out sometime.

I was sitting there in the library with the group, and I was in deep thought about the basilisk as to what to do with it? Should I kill it? Should I enslave it? I mean it can come in handy, but it also poses a huge risk.

Not to mention when it starts attacking students pretty much everyone will think that it could either be me or Harry… but there is another option for me. I can stop the whole thing from happening. It would certainly cause a big butterfly effect, and can change everything I know… so should I do it?

"What is he doing?" Ginny asked Hermione.

Hermione looked at me who was staring into the void and mumbling looking like a complete idiot she sighed and said: "He is in deep thought, he always does that, don't worry you will get used to it."

Victoria put down her book and scoffed and said, "Did you know Draco is the new Seeker?"

That sentence broke my train of thought I looked at Tori and said "Come again?" It was surprising I didn't think that it would happen. I guess we are going to win another Quidditch Cup.

Tracey scoffed and said, "Yeah, I heard his father bought the whole team new brooms to get him into the team…"

I chuckled and said, "Let's see how Clorox does in his first match."

Ginny said, "I hope he loses his teeth." Everyone laughed except Hermione.

Victoria asked Hermione "What is wrong? Hermione, you feel down what happened?"

Hermione sighed and asked me, "Why is it that....you never get angry when Draco calls you Mudblood?" She had anger in her eyes.

I looked in her eyes and said "Because I don't care what anyone says about me. I only care as to what my friends think of me... Well, most of you guys, especially..."

Everyone looked at me and Victoria and Victoria had a blush and I said "I on a regular basis get death threats and is most widely known as the new dark lord. Wherever I go people have this fake smile on their face, but their eyes are full of hate."

Hermione, Ginny, Astoria, Olivia and Luna looked awkward when I said that, but my Friends looked pissed, cause almost everyone else Daphne, Victoria, Ted and I have been through that exact same thing Daphne and Victoria to be Great Witches because of their families they were from and Ted and me to be the new Death Eaters.

I then looked at everyone in the room and said, "I am going to give you a piece of advice that is something I personally think, and I say this to everyone 'The disapproval of cowards is praise to the brave'. Stop living your lives that have been dictated by society or anyone else. Do what you want to do because life is short. And don't spend your time-wasting what others think of you. It is not worth it. "

My little speech may not have any impact on anyone but even if it impacts one.

After my speech, it may have been an awkward situation, but it forced everyone to think about it and that is enough.

A loud crashing noise was heard, and I said, "Damn, what is it that is missing from this? I have tried everything and I still can't do it?"

The rune was still not working, it still has jitters, the supply of power is not stable. I am running out of ways to make this work. I need to take some time off from this project.

I existed the ROR and went towards the common room I was stressed out about the rune project. I entered the common room and saw Daphne on the sofa, she was reading something, and she is not usually there at these hours.

I raised my eyebrows and asked, "What are you doing?"

Daphne looked up and continued reading and said "I am here because Victoria and Olivia are studying in the room and I didn't want to disturb them."

I sat down next to her, and she shifted, and I glanced at her book and She asked "What do you want?"

I shrugged my shoulders and said, "Nothing I was just wondering can you help me?"

She puts the book down and asks, "What is it that you want my help with?"

I said "I don't know I just want you to help me to get my mind off of my project"

She rolled her eyes and asks "How is it that I can help you with that?"

I shrugged my shoulders and said "That is something that I don't know. Maybe we can just talk and that can help."

She then looked at me and said, "Then you can go and ask Victoria for that."

I said, "I would have, but she is now helping Olivia and I would like to know you better."

She was confused and asked, "Why would I do that?"

I summoned some nighttime tea and said, "Because you owe me one." I poured us a cup and continued "So How is Astoria at home?"

She sighed and took the tea and said "She is much more upbeat. She loves to play with that Tamagotchi. She is obsessed with it, she even got in trouble with mom for that. Mom fortunately made her leave that thing at home. Astoria was not happy."

I chuckled and asked, "Why what happened?"

"It was not even a week in with that thing she was getting used to it, she would take it everywhere. She would walk it, feed it and bathe it." But suddenly at the end, she had a sad smile on her face.

I was confused and I asked, "Isn't that what are you supposed to do?"

She nodded and said, "She is not as strong as normal kids Jon… all the running and everything is not that good for her. I convinced her to pawn that thing for the Disk man you gave me."

I gave a warm smile and asked "You must really love her. I do to I see her as my sister as well. She calls me Brother and always comes to me with all her troubles with homework and everything."

Daphne looked at me and said "So that is why she doesn't ask for my help with homework now because she got her brother to do her homework for her. Tell me does she give you puppy eyes and says 'Please Brother Jon I don't understand this help me please' "

I scoffed and said, "First off I don't do her homework and secondly yes she pulls that exact same trick every time and I can't say no to her."

She gave a smile and said, "You have to stop spoiling her."

I sighed and said, "I know, but she is a person who gives me a sense of family."

She looked at me and asked, "Can I ask a question about your family then?"

I nodded and said, "I don't have much to call family but go ahead."

She asked, "Do you miss her? Your mom that is"

I sighed and said, "Um… I don't, I mean how would I even miss her if I had never known her… I do wish that I could have known her but…"

She looked at me and said "I… am sorry"

I shook my head and said "Don't be sorry… it's not like I don't have anyone… I have a family it is just me, Cotton, Jeely and Nimbus"

She raised her eyebrow and asked, "They all are family to you?"

I nodded and said, "Yeah, they are family to me. I don't know if you noticed, but I crave affection from anyone who can give it."

She chuckled a little and said, "Must be tough to be alone all the time."

I sighed and nodded said, "It is, but… you learn to live with it. And who knows, I might have a giant family as I have wanted."

She looked at me and smiled… we talked a little more before calling it night.
