The inbetweeners

"Bruce?" Victoria asked as she looked at the sandy wolf. He was rather big. Her ears pulled back slightly as she raised her head and puffed out her chest.

"Victoria right? Diana won't shut up about you, even since we were pups," the wolf smiled and wagged his tail gently.

"Bruce is an Omega from my pack, we're best friends and always take shifts together," Diana explained. Victoria relaxed a little.

"Well...it's good to see another friendly face. You are alright, right? Breaking rules to come find other wolves is only done when something happened," Victoria said as she looked around before sniffing at him.

He pulled his ears back and looked down, his tail curled in between his legs. Victoria picked up the scent of blood on him. She also noticed he wasn't placing much pressure on his back leg.

"I was with a few others, but last night we got ambushed by a small group of hunters. We scattered and got away but not...not after they…" he trailed off and Diana whimpered.

"They managed to kill one first...an Omega from a different pack," he said after swallowing.

"I'm sorry that happened and you had to witness it," Victoria said softly.

"Nothing we can do about it now," he said softly.

"Have you eaten? You should have some of the kill, it's still fresh," Victoria said as she saw his eyes flick to the carcass.

"A-are you sure?" He asked and Victoria nodded.

The big wolf moved closer and started to sniff and nibble on a leg. Victoria sighed, she really didn't like how Diana's pack treated their Omega's.

"Have some of the meatier back and flank, you need the energy," Victoria said and Bruce looked at her with wide eyes, but luckily unlike Diana he didn't need more prodding.

Victoria watched him eat and then looked to Diana who was happily basking in the sun. Clearly having had her full already.

"Does Bruce ever steal your food?" Victoria asked and the copper wolf tilted her head.

"No...sometimes Bruce will give me some of his though, why?" Diana asked.

"It's just...he iss so big," the Alpha to be said in surprise.

"It's mostly fluff, though yea, he does have muscle on him," Diana giggled.

"His leg is hurt," Victoria says after a few seconds. She was sitting near Diana as the Omega went back to enjoying the sun.

"I noticed, after he's had some food I'll get him to shift so it can heal," Diana hummed before moving closer to the white wolf. Victoria smiled and nuzzled the girl's ear, giving it a few licks.

Bruce lifted his big head and happily chewed the food in his mouth as he watched his best friend. His tail wagged as he smiled and went back to eating. He was happy Diana was getting along with the white Alpha. The girl always talked his ear off.

"You two like besties now or what?" He asked with a mouth half full of more meat.

"W-well...um actually…" Diana started, her tail thumping the ground loudly as she looked up to Victoria with her ears tight against her head.

"We are courting," Victoria said and Bruce choked.

"Well, um, I hope it works out," he said. Victoria could tell he felt awkward.

"Have a problem do we?" Victoria asked as she took a step closer. Her Alpha blood demanded she make sure no one went after her chosen mate.

"No! No, I just never heard of um...gay wolves before," he says as he curls into himself.

"Everyone is too scared...can't have pups if you're the same gender," Diana said softly. She didn't want there to be a fight. Bruce was not a fighter, but she knew Alpha's could be brutal.

"There is a way," Victoria said, more to herself than them.

Both Omega's perked and tilted their heads at her. Victoria cursed herself silently before sitting down.

"Last night I was visited by Fenrir," she says and they look at one another before back to her.

"The Wolf God said that there was a way and that we had to look for a special tribe of wolves. They live in a state between half wolf and-"

"Half human, yea I know, they live on the other side of the North mountain," Bruce said as he nodded.

Victoria and Diana frowned at him and he sighed before joining them, away from the carcass.

"Look, Diana isn't the only one from a different pack. I used to live near Victoria's pack, but not in the snow, just before the snow and my family always talked about the Northerners, the inbetweeners," Bruce explained.

He hummed and mulled the jumbled memories around before shaking his head.

"I thought they were myths, but if the Wolf God themselves told you about them, then heck yea they must be real!" He said and his tail lightly thumped the ground. Diana was listening enthralled and Victoria felt her heart skip a few beats.

"But no one has seen them for decades, even before the extinction, a wall of thorn bushes had grown and no one's ever come out," he said and looked down, deep in thought.

"Do you know exactly where it is?" Victoria asked.

"Not really, but I'm sure you can't miss a wall of thorns," he chuckled.

"What do you think, Victoria?" Diana asked as she sat up.

"I think...soon as we know everyone is alright and safe, we go there," Victoria smiled and Diana jumped on her paws.

"A road trip! Ooooo, this'll be fun!" She grins before snuggling up to the white wolf.

"Can I tag along? I'd really love to see them," Bruce asked and Victoria sighed at the puppy eyes Diana gave her.

"Sure, the more the merrier," she smiled.
