1 Chapter 1

My leg bounced impatiently as grandpa drove slow behind the wheel. The old man was my only option when it came to getting to school since we lived on the towns outskirts. I wish we lived in the town centre, then maybe the principal would stop hassling me about attendance.

I chuckled at the normality of these problems compared to the impossible future ahead of me.

Six months. Six. Long. Impossible. Months. That's what it took for I, Kira shaw, to finally accept the situation. It wasn't easy at first, but it was only a matter of time. The facts couldn't be disputed. This wasn't the same world that raised me, I wasn't the same person, wasn't even the same species anymore.

My family had been replace by the Shaws, which only included my two grandparents and I. We lived in a small house on the edge of town and generally kept to ourselves.

Gone was the human Kira apparently. All that remained was Kira the werewolf, along with my new life in the fictional town of Mystic Falls.

How or why I ended up here, in the body of a 17 year old girl is a complete mystery to me. My past and everything that used to be important was gone. Forever. However, that didn't seem to matter anymore. It took a long time for me to process and grudgingly accept it, yet I managed, and now was the time to move forward. The past was the past. My only focus at the moment should be surviving in a world that made it a challenge.

Fortunately god hadn't forsaken little old me. When I'd woken up here, half a year ago, it'd been in Mystic Falls hospital. Apparently the old Kira was involved in a car accident the night before in which the other driver had died.

The cameras showed that she was entirely innocent and thanks to the autopsy we knew the dead woman was drunk driving. Although there was no legal backlash for me to deal with the next day, the following month was filled with unexplainable bouts of anger and strength. At first I'd ignored it, boiling it down to the fact I was stressing about living another life.

This was a mistake on my behalf. If I'd known. Been prepared. Then maybe things would be different, but there was no point in crying over spilt milk now. Later that month the long anticipated full moon had arrived. It seemed like any other night to me. I was at home when it happened.

My whole skeleton cracked and shattered as it twisted and reshaped into something else. My body fought against me, wanting to rewrite its entire genetic makeup. This continued for hours upon hours without pause. It was the worst feeling I'd ever experienced, to put it lightly.

Under a minute had passed when I vanished from my bedroom, appearing in the towns infamous woods at inhuman speeds. It seemed darker than usual that night. Quiet and bleak. I'd probably scared off every animal for miles. My frightening screams of agony gradually drowned out as they turned into howls of dominance, the transformation was eventually completed and I blacked out.

The next morning I woke up in a clearing in the woods. The bright blinding sun shone down, and it took a moment for my eyes to adjust. But when they did, I saw what my nose had been trying to tell me.

If someone were to have wondered over that morning they would have been welcomed to a grim and distasteful sight. In the clearing laid a naked young girl, covered in mud, leaves and clearly dazed. She was soaked in blood head to toe. Scattered around was the torn apart bodies of both animals, and humans. A few pieces of human flesh were wedged between her teeth, as well as unidentifiable insides dangling in her hair.

It wasn't easy, yet if you were to look close enough you'd spot the head of a little boy, with no body in sight. Other than that there seemed to be three more adults and a deer.

I'll never forget that night. It was the first time I had taken a life. The night I finally learnt what I was. The day I realised... that Kira Shaw could live with innocent blood staining her hands and rest just as easily at night.

...

After barely dealing with all the psychological aspects of what happened, then came the positives. The one thing that made me happy about this impossible situation. I was an honest to god werewolf. Faster, stronger and more powerful then any human out there. Even without the full moon.

Turning to face grandpa my mind drifted to thoughts of the future. As far as communication with the main cast had gone, well it hadn't. Purposely avoiding them was the plan until I decided on what I wanted. To get involved and fight? Or to turn around, run from the problems this place would attract?

Most would choose latter, putting their own safety first, on the other hand I still needed answers. Maybe not all the answers, but being completely clueless wasn't my style, and something told me that escaping would mean running from the truth. Whatever that may be.

However what I did know was that becoming hybrid as soon as possible was at the top of my to do list. Going through the pain of turning every month for the rest of my life? Yeah, no way in hell.

"Well, here we are sweetheart" An old voice sounded. "Remember I won't be able to pick you up, so take the bus home"

Turning to face my grandad, I couldn't hold back an eye roll. "I heard you the first 5 times, I'm not gonna forget."

Stepping out the car I gave him a kiss on the cheek before making my way across the parking lot, spotting a few familiar faces. Stood by a small blue car was a pretty brunette with two of her friends. Elena Gilbert, Bonnie Bennett and Caroline Forbes.

As far as the time period went, Stefan had already arrived at school and tonight was the schools Halloween party. It was where the death of Vicki Donovan would take place. If I remembered correctly, Stefan would kill her after she lost control and tried to turn Elena into dinner.

Across from them my gaze landed on Tyler Lockwood. A player in this game I'd already began to align myself with. Others didn't have a reason to trust me or side with me, but Lockwood and I both have something in common. We're werewolves, a truth that could be used to my advantage, creating a sort of pack with him. Either way the hotheaded teen would one day become a very powerful hybrid.

Having first approached him around 4 months ago, Tyler had began to warm up to me. I guess you could even call us friends. Don't get me wrong he's still the massive season 1 dick, but if you didn't piss him off and put up with his shit. Let's just say the guy wasn't actually that bad.

Besides beggars can't be choosers. He was still my only friend.

My dark brown eyes eventually caught sight of Stefan Salvatore himself, although my nose had picked him up before I'd stepped foot out of the car. All vampires had the same smell, it was unmistakable.

It was a few seconds later I found myself beside Tyler "Hey, Lockwood," I stepped forward with a curious look, "You hear about last nights animal attack?" I asked, grabbing his attention.

It seemed the meaner of the Salvatore brothers helped himself to an unsuspecting townie last night. Again.

His large frame turned to face me, "Another one? What is that? Three in the same week?" Tyler shook his head in surprise. "What the hells going on in the woods?"

Falling in step with him my voice lowered, "Actually, I was hoping to talk to you about the animal attacks. You said you had the night free right?" I shifted nervously, not sure if this was the right decision.

Tonight was a full moon and the plan was to introduce him to the supernatural world a tad bit earlier.

"Yeah. Told my parents I'm staying at a friends. Remind me, why are we missing the Halloween Party? And why are you whispering?". He grumbled.

Sighing I still kept my voice down, you never knew who was listening. "I'll tell you later. Just make sure you wait for me after school."

With a quick 'see ya', I split off from Lockwood and jogged to my locker.

Nobody else really bothered to talk to me due to my lack of reputation. Having lived in Mystic Fall her entire life everyone knew about Kira Shaw and her grandparents. The Family trio that never attended any of the towns festivals, parades or gatherings. They did their own thing, in their small house at the edge of town.

Most people just forgot about us after a while.
