CHAPTER 3

Drive Me Crazy

For the next week Isaac thankfully stayed away. I saw flashes of him in the hallway of the building at times, usually accompanied by an ever changing girl.

He didn't seem too interested in me anymore which I was grateful about because I kept embarrassing myself whenever I was around him. I hated like that so him taking a break from bothering me was more than appreciated.

I threw myself into my studies and avoided Micah's call and texts asking if she could come by again next weekend. I wanted to hang out with her but I had a bad feeling that she'd just spend the entire time either with Isaac or obsessing about him.

And if she hang out with Isaac that would mean that Isaac would be all over my place again and I was so not in the mood to deal with him.

Just like I wasn't today, either, yet fate seemed to have a wicked sense of humor.

I woke up late, groaning as I rolled out of bed. My neck was hurting because apparently I had used my thick

World History Part Three book as my pillow for the night and let me tell you it was not comfortable.

I threw on a dress and pantyhose, hopefully it wouldn't be too cold outside since I didn't have time to change my outfit. I threw the books I needed into my bag and ran out of the apartment.

Ahead of me I could see light brown hair and a smirk thrown in my way over a muscular shoulder.

"Are you kidding me!" I hissed as he disappeared into the elevator that I was supposed to go in. I could hear him laughing all the way down and I felt like shaking him.

Repeatedly. Since that was not possible at the moment I settled for letting out another frustrated scream and started running down the stairs.

"You know if you're running late I'd be happy to help you out." He called once I reached the bottom floor.

The jerk had stayed there just to see me desperately run out of the building.

"Screw you, elevator thief." I snapped while putting my hair up on a ponytail and ran to my bike.

I'd get to school faster by bike than by bus and cursed myself for wearing this stupid dress. I unlocked my bike and hopped on it.

I had exactly 18, no 17 minutes to get to the university and into my first class. I would never make it in time. Despite my pessimistic thoughts I started pedaling just to notice that the tire of my bike was practically empty and in no shape to be driven with.

I glared at the sky, wondering what I had done to deserve such a horrible day like this and returned the bike to its place. I checked the clock on my wrist. 14 minutes.

"Oh fudge." I whispered to myself and tried to remember how the buses ran at this time. I bolted to the bus stop just to have my way blocked by a motorcycle.

"You sure look busy." Isaac said lazily smoking a cigarette and holding a helmet in his non-smoking hand.

I glared at him with all my glaring might. "Isaac if you do not get out of my way I will rip your head off. With my teeth!" I threatened but he just smiled.

"I could help you out. There's more where this came from." He said pointing to his helmet.

Questions flooded my mind. He was offering me a ride? On a motorcycle? To the university? Why?

Probably just to see my dress go up with the wind, I thought bitterly. I arched a brow.

"Like you're helping right now?"

His electric brown eyes lit up with amusement. What was it with him? The crankier I got the more amused he became. Did he just live off of other people's misery like a freaking real life dementor?

"I'll make you deal, Dawn Montenegro. If I get you there in time you'll owe me one." He offered and the way he looked me up and down made me not want to know more but I asked anyway.

"One what?" I asked cautiously.

I wasn't stupid. I knew that making a faustian bargain with someone like Isaac was probably a bad idea. No, scratch that. Making deals with someone like Isaac was most definitely a bad idea.

His smirk deepened. "Let's just say a favor."

I snorted. "Yeah, no thanks, pervert."

Isaac shrugged. "Suit yourself. I've heard that professor Hanz loves it when people come in late. Even more if they skip class without a good reason." He taunted me.

I stared at him incredolously.

"How did you know that I have Hanz for first class? I demanded.

"Well, you see, sweet Dawn, it's because I have it too. But you're wasting time." He reminded me. I checked my watch again. 12 minutes.

"If you do get us there in time." I started to say hesitantly.

His response was immediate, confident. "And I will."

"But if you don't deal is off. I don't owe you anything." I said quickly trying to save myself.

It was clear that we'd never make it. No one and I mean no one can get through the city's morning rush hour in twelve minutes. Not a chance. But with any luck I'd get to my class before my professor locked the door.

Isaac smiled like a pirate as he blew smoke out of his mouth. "Agreed."

I was still hesitating. "And this favor..."

"Tick, tock, sweet Dawn."

I've never been good under pressure. Seriously I crack like an egg when I need to make decisions with a time limit. One time I nearly had a nervous breakdown while playing Mario Cart.

"Fine!" I then exclaimed and accepted the helmet he offered me.

The smug smirk on his face when I sat behind him was very troubling and I feared for what I had gotten myself into.
