Chapter 13

LYDIA

THE WHOLE MORNING I'd spent on the edge of insanity and curiosity. To say Ozzy and I didn't know each other would be an understatement. We were strangers even though our parents were married. Being in his house and spending time with his son had changed the limited view I had of him.

When I thought of the Burns family, I only had Rafferty Burns the Third as an example. He was a stuffy man who spent his money freely on those he was infatuated with. My mom was a prime example of this. He would shower her with attention and money all day long. He was colder with others, though, including his son. In the few times I'd been in his presence, he'd let it slip that when Ozzy was young, his mom wasn't around much, and he had nannies do everything. They traveled on vacation with him, and when the time came, attended all the school meetings and functions. I guess it took a lot to make an empire, but at what cost?
