21 Chapter 21: Buried Memories

After their reunion the group returned to their respective rooms. Ein noticed that Elysia was suspiciously quiet. Maybe planning to tease someone or something he thought.

Ein then received a message that he should go to Mobius for something important. "Hm, maybe she'd like to make some more specific tests." As he walked for a few minutes to Mobius' lab.

Entering her lab, he saw him glued to her computer again while holding a clip board. "Dr. Mobius, you need me?" He tried to get her attention.

Mobius ignored him for a bit then slowly looked at him. "Ah yes, the one responsible for my current predicament. Have a seat Ein, we need to talk about Dr. Frey and Eric's current research results. I would like you to continue it as I think it would be beneficial for MOTH and our research about augmenting human bodies beyond limits."

Ein frowned for a second "Their research? I didn't really ask them on what they're working on so I don't know what it is. Can you tell me the gist of it?

Mobius nodded "They were trying to make nano machines that can absorb honkai energy and repurpose it. I.e. Weapons, cleansing the energy, etc. Basically an anti-honkai invention that can turn the tides of this war to our side.

Ein pondered for a bit "So this can help us clean honkai corruption from the surroundings and can also be used to create weapons that will give us an edge. But it's still incomplete no? I think Mei can help a lot with this as she has better insight in quantum mechanics. We have to unravel the mysteries of honkai energy first.

Mobius agreed "That's right. We've tried to analyze honkai energy for decades now but it just is too mysterious. All we can say is that the energy is alike to a higher form of energy that can induce certain phenomena and bend physics to its will."

Ein: "Maybe we should analyze the herrscher cores that the 1st and 2nd left behind? I think those are our key to success in finding something about how the honkai magically spawns constructs and do absurd things."

Mobius: "Good idea, we have also tried to make some experiments using the herrscher cores, but the honkai energy in them is too volatile. With you and Mei now in MOTH I believe we'll make significant progress on our future projects."

Ein: "You're putting a lot of pressure on the shoulders of 2 teenagers Dr. Mobius. I understand though, we have to do everything we can or we'll be wiped out before long."

Mobius: "Indeed, I'm expecting a lot from the both of you. Now, how about your projects Ein? I'm sure you have a reason on why you've focused a lot on genealogy."

Ein: "I'm sure you already know, I have plans on changing imperfections on the human genome. Augmenting it with possibly other dna so humans can become stronger and can live through harsh environments. The only problem is, of course there's a limit to that until humans don't necessarily look like one anymore and that won't cut it against herrschers or higher tiered honkai beasts."

Mobius nodded as she understands that a human even though perfect, will still only be a stronger human. "I've conducted tests about using honkai energy to make humans stronger and more durable. We've seen the effects on it on zombies after all, they gained superhuman strength and they mutate for better survival and defense."

Ein: "Though they die immediately don't they? How about dna of honkai beasts? Do you guys have samples? Why not use it to make test subjects have better resistance and possibly manipulate honkai energy?"

Mobius: "Hah, if we could get samples. Honkai beasts fade away quickly after they're dead. Lower ranked honkai beasts don't have dna too so they won't work. We have theories that emperor class and above will be more workable. Although the others have long faded away after they've lost all their honkai energy."

Ein: "I see, so energy is the only thing we can get from low class ones. If MOTH deals with the emperor class and in my estimations the four armed judgement class. We might be able to use those as samples, I can store it indefinitely too."

Mobius then propped up as she had an excited look on her face "Fufufu~ such a valuable specimen that I could get my hands on. You are truly a perfect assistant for me Ein~."

Ein: "Hah, contact me again when you've made some breakthroughs. I'll focus on gene editing for now so when we do get some honkai genes we could make some experiments on it already."

After a couple of days Ein had 2 coffins made and he bought a modified seedling of a cherry blossom tree that blooms all year round, it can also grow quickly.

He then went to a small hill nearby the base that has multiple flower beds. On the center, he dug and laid his parents to rest. He then planted the seedling on top of them. Thinking of the future when it blooms beautifully, right above their graves.

He kneeled in front of the tree seedling "Grow nice and strong. Bloom beautifully in this spot so they would have a nice scenery to look onto okay?" He then silently closed his eyes, reminiscing about the times they spent together with tears about to fall on his eyes. Lost in thought and memories.

Somebody then hugged him from behind tenderly. He quickly looked to know who it is. He saw pink as sky blue orbs stared at his green ones.

"I knew something was wrong with you. You were far too inattentive and less witty these past couple of days." As Elysia hugged him tighter. She then kissed the top of his head gently like a mother showing affection to her child.

Elysia: "It's okay, we're here for you. I'm here for you, Ein. I'll stay with you and we'll mourn together alright?" She smiled sweetly at him.

"Hah, I should've known you'd notice something Elysia. You're sensitive to other people after all." He sighed and shook his head. "Thank you Elysia, you've always been a busybody. Sticking your nose in other people's business." He snorted

She pouted and glared at him "Mou, a beautiful girl is hugging and comforting you, but you badmouth me!? Hmph!" She then pinched his sides.

He hugged her tight "Thank you Elysia. This means a lot to me."

Elysia: "I know dummy. I might seem unreliable but you can be sure that I'll always be there for you. You might be the unanimous leader in our group, but, relying on us like this is good too." She gave a wide smile.

As they sat there, basking in the moment. Surrounded by beautiful flowers and showered by the afternoon sun light.
