A film is a only be successful if it have good box office score or it have gain awards. A film will be called classic if it gained both.
For a film to gain reputation specially indie films award is important but it might no be as important as for the crew members , actors or the director.
To become successful or to have a market stability or to gain enough reputation or respect for any actor, director , screen writer or any other crew member gaining a award have more weight than having high box office.
That's why award shows are so important for not only to gain recognition but to show the world as well that you got one.
Most popular award show in US is The Golden Globe Award and the OSCARS Award.
On July 28 The golden globe announced the nominations where E.T got 8 including best film, best director and Richard got 3 from which 1 outside of E.T they were the best adapted screenplay , the best supporting actor and the new superstar of the year.
When Richard was shooting on the third day in the film A Christmas Story , The golden globe held.
Although Richard participated, that day E.T got 4 awards among which was the best film and best director, but he didn't get any which was not surprising. He was sad for not getting anything but happy that E.T won the best film.
During the last days of the shooting, the OSCARS nomination came out.
E.T won 10 nomination for Best Visual Effects, Best Original Score, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography , Best Supporting Actor,
Best Director and Best Pictures
The announcement shocked not only the media but the general public as well. A 7 year old not only won 2 nomination but double nomination at that.
Today finally the all the dubbing work for <A Christmas story> is finished. After finishing the the shooting a month back, Richard stayed in Hollywood not only for the dubbing work but also for the PR of the E.T movie for the coming Oscars.
It was a one of a kind experience, going to parties of Oscar judge, meeting them in in person, giving interview to the media all in all this was a one of a kind experience for him which is quite tiring.
Coming out of the Studio Richard and Ari directly went to the Armani Store where they met with his mother. Today's agenda find a good suit for Richard when attending Oscar award. As he is a growing child he needs to constantly change dress.
Beside a celebrity usually don't wear a party dress more than twice even if its a male star. Being a public figure is a money burning process.
Hour hand of a clock moves, the sky becomes darker, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion gets filled with shouts of fans and reporters, flashes of camera, as stars walks on the red carpet to enter because today is 55th Academy Awards i.e. Oscars.
"Wow just look the amount of people here." said Hanna looking at the the mass of people outside the car.
"Well its one of the few times in a year all the stars gather around so, having this much people quite common." replied Richard while also looking outside.
Toady is Richard's first time attending Oscars. looking at the red carpet when the car stop Richard thought
'How far I have come in such a short time'
Taking a deep breath Richard got out of the car ans step on the carpet.
Today he wore a black suit, his cute but sharp face attracted quite a few attention but the response he got while walking is quite mild compare to the other stars.
Even with the grand success of E.T not many people know about him.
Holding his mother's hand, he walked all the way into the theater, and quickly found the crew, and greeted the crew members such as Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall one by one. , Sat down quietly, waiting for the start of the award ceremony.
In fact, he is not optimistic that he can get the Golden Man. As he can see the judges' standards, but it is really difficult for people with too little experience to win the prize, Besides getting a early Oscar might not be a good thing.
His thoughts were interpreted when melodious sound traveled all around the stage indicating the start of the shows.
With the host doing his greeting and teasing the celebrities, awards ceremony started and the second award was the best supporting actor male came
When, Susan Sarandon came to the stage telling the nomination for the best supporting actor male, When Richard name was announced his face was shown in the screen was face with a sunny sweet smile.
"The best supporting actor is Louis Gossett Jr."
Hearing the announcement Richard sign in disappointment and Hanna took Richards hand pressed it hard
"Don't worry you will get next time." consoled Hanna.
"Thanks mom."
"Don't be sad kid you have a lot of time" said Steven while patting his shoulder.
"Thanks Steven."
After that all the technical awards were given. Among them 4 won by E.T.
Then one by one best supporting actress came, best actress came, best actor came then came the best editing which went to E,T
When Philip Dunne came and handed the prize for best original screen play, its time for best adapted screen play. Finishing the name of the nominees he opened the envelope looked inside and was surprised for a moment.
Seeing the surprise face audience became curious but the nominees including Richard became tense.
looking at the audience he laughed " Looks like history about to take place"
hearing the audience got confused but some discerning mind quickly found out looked at a certain side, even Richard heart skipped a beat.
"The best adapted Screen play goes to E.T, Richard Jackson"
