Nighttime.
After dinner, Cro returned to his room, feeling a bit excited. As he passed the bathroom, he stopped to wash his face.
"Let's see today's haul. Thirty-four bronze chests, twelve silver, nine gold… One diamond and one king chest!"
Cro sat cross-legged on the bed and waved his hand.
"System, combine everything!"
[Congratulations to the host for receiving three silver chests and one gold chest.]
[Congratulations to the host for receiving one diamond chest!]
"Another diamond chest! Nice!" Cro couldn't stop grinning.
"I'll save the low-tier ones for later. Open the diamond chest! Give me one of the three Unforgivable Curses!"
Cro rubbed his hands in anticipation.
[Congratulations to the host for opening a diamond chest and receiving the reward: Stunning Spell!]
[Stunning Spell Lv1: Causes the target to fall into unconsciousness!]
As knowledge of the spell flooded his mind, Cro's expression twisted in disbelief.
"A Stunning Spell from a diamond chest? Sure, it's a Dark Magic spell, but out of all the Dark Magic, why give me this?"
He grumbled. The Stunning Spell was one of the weakest forms of Dark Magic, with almost no offensive capabilities.
Cro grabbed the nearby Eve, who was sitting blankly, and started squeezing her chubby face.
"I refuse to believe it. Keep opening!" Cro demanded while squeezing Eve's face.
Eve: ... If you manage to get something good, I'll do a handstand while pooping!
[Congratulations to the host for opening a diamond chest and receiving the reward: Tarantellagra!]
[Tarantellagra: Forces the victim to dance uncontrollably, unable to stop even when utterly exhausted!]
Cro let go of Eve and silently walked into the bathroom. He scrubbed his face three or four times, making sure there wasn't a single blemish left, before returning to bed.
"I refuse to accept this! So many Dark Magic spells, and I can't get a single lethal one?" Cro muttered through gritted teeth. "Voldemort, you better not let me down, or I'll spread the news about your lack of a nose across the entire wizarding world! And then I'll take your pet snake, Nagini, and cook her up for snake stew!"
Cro took a deep breath as Eve gave him a disdainful look. She flapped her wings and flew back to her perch, content to watch the chaos unfold.
Yep, she was really eating a watermelon Mrs. Granger had given her. Just watching the drama.
...
"The three Unforgivable Curses, Fiendfyre, ancient magic... I'd be happy with any of those!" Cro muttered fiercely. "King chest, open!"
[Congratulations to the host for opening a king chest and receiving the reward: Nagini!]
[Nagini: One of Voldemort's Horcruxes, originally a Maledictus cursed to transform into a snake.]
[Note: Nagini's connection to Voldemort has been severed by the system, and she is now bound to the host.]
[Note: The Maledictus curse has been lifted, allowing Nagini to return to her human form.]
As soon as the system's voice fell, a massive green snake, nearly four meters long and as thick as a barrel, suddenly appeared in the room. The once spacious room instantly felt cramped.
Cro found himself staring into Nagini's snake eyes, dumbfounded. Eve, on the other hand, was so shocked her beak hung wide open. Seriously? A snake this big?!
"N-Nagini?" Cro stammered cautiously.
Nagini flicked her tongue but remained silent, staring at him with her cold, reptilian gaze.
Just as Cro tensed up and was about to reach for his wand in a desperate last stand, Nagini lowered her head and slithered closer to him.
Eve, feathers bristling in panic, prepared to attack, but Cro waved her off. Reluctantly, Eve hovered in the air, keeping a watchful eye on the giant snake.
"Should I call you Nagini or by your human name?" Cro asked hesitantly, reaching out to touch her head.
The cool texture of her scales helped ease his tension a little.
"You can call me whatever you like. I am your Horcrux now, so it's up to you," a clear and pleasant voice echoed in Cro's mind, though there was a hint of sadness in her tone.
"What's wrong? You don't like your new master? Well, I guess Voldemort did treat you pretty well," Cro said, sensing her melancholy. He stopped petting her.
"But now, you're my Horcrux, my snake! As for Voldemort, he can get lost let him be born again if his parents ever have another son!" Cro declared boldly, staring straight into Nagini's snake eyes, showing no fear as he mocked the Dark Lord.
"He's the worst villain in history. Dark Lord, my foot! Stick a couple of green onions in his nostrils and… Oh wait, I forgot. He doesn't have a nose!" Cro added with a smirk.
Nagini couldn't help but laugh at Cro's words, but she forgot she was still in snake form. Seeing a massive, three-meter-long snake laughing was... quite a sight.
The sight was so overwhelming that Cro froze in place, feeling like he might be eaten any second. Eve's feathers stood on end, and she prepared to defend Cro, glaring at Nagini like she was the enemy of all birdkind.
This guy's a disaster! Eve thought, realizing how dangerous things had gotten. She had been starting to feel close to Cro, but now... she wasn't so sure anymore.
