McGonagall gave him a sidelong glance, half-smiling, "Your final test is to transform all the desks and chairs in the classroom into different animals, and if you succeed, I'll consider you passed."
Hearing this, Wayne wasted no time. With a flurry of movements, his wand transformed the entire classroom into a zoo, filled with all sorts of birds and beasts.
"Alright, you can skip this semester's homework," McGonagall said cheerfully, granting Wayne her promised privilege.
Wayne grinned widely—if he told Hermione, she would be so envious! But then again, the little witch loved doing homework, so not having to do any might even upset her.
"Lawrence," McGonagall suddenly said, "I would like to invite you to join my Transfiguration club."
"Huh?"
"Oh, you might not know what that is," McGonagall remembered that Wayne was a first-year student and explained, "This is a private club I founded, and most of the students in it have solid foundations in Transfiguration."
"Every week, a night or half a day on the weekend is set aside for communication, where we share our experiences with each other."
"Professor, is that really necessary?" Wayne said with a dry smile. "With my level… communicate with them?"
Wayne had too much to do every day—developing new magical tools, exploring the Forbidden Section at night for knowledge, teaching Hermione, and taking leisurely walks. As a somewhat inexperienced time management master, he was already feeling overwhelmed.
He couldn't forget that despite being at school for so long, he still hadn't visited the Forbidden Forest. He simply had no time to join any clubs.
Professor McGonagall took a full half a minute to compose herself before waving her hand wearily. "Just pretend I didn't say anything, Lawrence.
"Honesty is indeed a good thing… but I hope you won't be so blunt in the future."
Wayne nodded with a compliant smile. "I'll keep that in mind, Professor."
He bowed slightly before exiting the classroom. McGonagall looked at the chaos in the classroom, waved her wand to restore everything to its original state, and muttered to herself as she gazed at the desks and chairs.
"With the ability to perform multiple transformations at once, how did such talent end up in Hufflepuff…?"
Sadly, throughout Hogwarts' history, some had been expelled, others imprisoned in Azkaban, and some even died, but none had ever transferred to another house. Otherwise, McGonagall would have really wanted to take action and pull Wayne over from Hufflepuff.
Stepping out of the classroom, she hesitated at the door for a moment before making her way to Professor Flitwick's office on the sixth floor. She was feeling a bit down and needed someone to share her burdens with.
The next morning, while the young witches and wizards were enjoying breakfast, owls appeared on time, delivering their packages.
One owl laboriously landed in front of Wayne, dropped a large parcel, and then looked up at him with a mournful expression.
Wayne understood immediately, took out some specialized pet food, and let the round-faced fluffy owl have its breakfast.
Hagrid had just visited Hermione yesterday, and today he was sending things over. Sure enough, this friend was reliable.
Then, from the flames, a phoenix flew out, carrying a package. The appearance of the Phoenix naturally attracted everyone's attention, and some even sighed in envy.
