Although it was the most common protective charm, it didn't mean that the Armored Charm was easy. In reality, many employees of the Ministry of Magic failed to master its usage, and proficiency in the Armored Charm was also one of the most critical aspects of the Auror exam.
According to an Auror autobiography Wayne had read, the minimum standard for assessing an Auror was to cast the charm silently. If one couldn't even protect themselves, how could they expect Aurors to capture Dark Wizards?
"The incantation you should know is 'Protego.'"
When reciting the spell, the emphasis should be on 'te,' and it should be closely connected to 'go.'
Wayne detailed the techniques for Hermione: "Remember, when reciting the spell, your wrist should be lifted, and your wand should be held vertically to your body."
He began to demonstrate the most standard movements for E, while concentrating his thoughts, imagining an indestructible shield in front of him. "The defensive power of the Iron Armor Charm is not only related to magical power but also to the strength of one's will. Magic is idealistic; willpower and imagination play significant roles. You must not think of it with a Muggle mindset; this shield must be magical and miraculous."
Wayne spoke eloquently, and Hermione nodded vigorously, jotting down all the key points he mentioned. "Now, give it a try yourself," he said. After Wayne finished speaking, he encouraged the young witch to try practicing.
In fact, Hermione showed considerable talent for spellcasting. After Wayne explained just once, she remembered all the key points and meticulously followed the tutorial to perform the spell. Within an hour, she could barely manage to chant the incantation, but Wayne sensed that the Iron Armor Charm felt flat and lackluster—it didn't flow smoothly at all. He couldn't help but think about adjusting it.
As a result, when he tried to tweak it, something went wrong. "Pffft!" The sound of a deflating balloon was particularly prominent in the silent room, leaving Wayne stunned. "Is that the Iron Armor Charm or the Balloon Charm? You can just poke it and it pops!"
Hermione's cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she stammered, "This is just the beginning! I… I'll get better with time."
Wayne didn't respond immediately. While her lack of proficiency played a part, the main issue was… her magical power was too low. Those families that insisted on blood purity weren't without reason; most pure-blood young wizards had considerably more magical talent than someone like Hermione, who came from a Muggle background. For instance, Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter; if they had Hermione's learning abilities, their magical strength would undoubtedly support a complete Iron Armor Charm.
"What are you thinking about?" Hermione asked cautiously, worried that her performance had disappointed Wayne.
"Nothing," Wayne replied, noticing her pouty expression, which made her look like she was about to cry. He smiled and reassured her, "You're doing quite well. It's not your fault." He added, "Once you've trained for a year or two and your magical power increases, you'll naturally be able to master the Iron Armor Charm."
