Winter's Coming

The dishes were quickly wrapped up and the various bits of clothing and trash placed into their respective positions. On the stove sat a steaming hot simple chicken and dumpling soup. Taking out a bowl Winter found herself alone at the table gently blowing at her spoon before taking her first sip.

It wasn't amazing but it definitely offered warmth and the comfort that she needed. However these moments of peace were fleeting. Winter eventually found herself at the table with an empty bowl in a dimly lit house that made her skin crawl all alone.

Night was properly set and the clock kept ticking away leaving a sense of dread. By the time it hit nine Winter had finished her schoolwork and the soup had gone cold. Worry had begun to sink in her heart as she tapped away at her phone screen pulling up her most frequent contact, mom.
