Hi, Just Your Friendly Commensalism Mushroom Here

Hello there, as you heard from whatever those strange words are, I’m basically a mushroom, but in reverse, instead of leeching life energy off of dying things, I give life energy to… the dying? To those that ask for it? No no, that’s not it… hmmm… oh that’s right! To those that need it! Well, that’s how it was supposed to go, but something unexpected came up, which I would say is completely unfair to me as they tried to off me. All I know is that I helped someone in dire need of it and now, I’m being chased by these scary people, I can hide pretty good, but they are looking for me thoroughly, and they are somehow tracking me, all I can do is keep running, or would that be jumping? Oh it doesn’t matter!” "I heard something over there!" ‽ ‽ ‽ Oh shoot they heard me moving, I have to get going now, bye whoever you are, I wish you a good life! Follow a unique little mushroom in a fantasy world where both nature and civilization are at the top, neither dominating nor succumbing to the other. Nature, monsters, animals, as strong as ever, and the humans, orcs, elves, demons, you name it, are just as proficient, each in their own way. Monsters hunting, killing, dominating the others... the sentient races gathering and growing for survival and betterment in their lives, and in the middle of all that, is our small, uncanny, mushroom friend… well, lets see what happens, shall we? Grateful

The flower suddenly began to glow in its entirety; not like Cari's ethereal biofluorescence or the light-show of green life energy orbs like from earlier, the flowers entire body was taking on a bright white glow & started to enlarge in size.

He immediately jumped back as he didn't know if was safe to be so close, Cari knew very little about evolution, it was one of the topics that was limited considering it came from an existence that was here since the dawn of time, so he was naturally cautious of such a thing.

While he understood the crux of it as thanks to En taking part OF the evolution process for some animals, plants, etc in the distant past; he learned how animals & generally nature in itself had it easier when it came to evolution, as it was still a part of them in the first place, it was like the nature of a handicap in a way, people could cultivate life energy, had intelligence & could learn many methods to manipulate and use it to their advantage, so what did animals, plants have...?

While all wildlife were all going through the process of natural evolution, humanity has shunned it in a sense, building houses for warmth, making medicines for illness, instead of adapting to it over generations of evolution; Nature maintained a sort of 'connection' with it, a link of sorts, making it more possible for them to achieve it in this way.

As for what it actually encompasses, it could be best described as 'a living thing moving a step up in its race'.

This is the height of information he condensed for Cari to have, although that doesn't mean there is more that En is keeping from him, it's just that this is the best encapsulation of all the information he had to give...

"Enough of the internal monologue! What am I supposed to do?"

Necessarily speaking, Cari couldn't think of any information on the evolution process being harmful to those around the said thing, so he was safe for the time being, and it wouldn't be capable of harming him.

"That's a relief, but..."

The flower has stopped enlarging in size, it was no longer short & meek, it was as tall as... tall grass, laughably.

A large group of little orbs left the flowers top, like pollen but visible to the eye, white in color, they slowly descended and spread to the surrounding ground around it, only then did Cari notice its roots were also glowing along with it, as he could somehow see the roots shining through the ground, as they were highlighted in same bright and shining glory of white.

The roots were spreading, as if they were preparing to link up with the orbs that were about to touch the ground.

As the orbs of white covered the ground surrounding the tall flower in a somewhat large area, they immediately took on the shape of a sapling, then, at an extremely rapid pace, they grew into the form of the flower, looking even taller than the original.

Cari was only a couple of centimeters away, but now, as the process came to an end, the scene looked, for lack of a better word, beautiful.

The large bright flower that was looming over the dozens of smaller versions of itself, the entirety of it being in a white light.

He thought it looked rather divine, but before the process could end, the light started to dim and all the flowers started to droop.

"What's going on!?"

He then triggered his lifelight to see what was going on, unconsciously maintaining his lucidity and color in the environment in the heat of the moment.

He noticed that while the amount of life energy in its body was very high, compared to its new size, and all of the newer, smaller plants, there just wasn't enough for all of them to share…

The life energy from the centered, large one was leaking into the smaller ones through the, although growingly dim, roots.

With 2 'starry' eyes, Cari looked worried(despite not exactly having a face), he didn't know what to do, but then, he felt something; it wasn't that nasty feeling, but something else entirely, a feeling of... empathy?

He couldn't describe the feeling of it, if he had to, it felt like the plant was giving off the most primitive feeling, the only kind of feeling it could give out… of asking for help, it felt weird to Cari, it was as if his very being was being asked to help...

And of course he wouldn't reject it…

He let out all the bells and whistles, releasing his radiating aura, let the voidful color of black that usually came with lifelight out, allowing him to focus on the life energy and only the life energy, and this time, thanks to having the routine of target & intention in his mind, he simply thought the word.

"Restore."

The process began again, but this time, he made sure to control every aspect of it this time, so he wouldn't do something crazy again like make it evolve twice.

The flower happily accepted the new source of energy as it readily consumed the energy, but what it noticed was that it didn't need to spread the energy out…

Cari was already doing that.

With his new control over it, he's controlling it to not focus solely on the big one, but each individual one.

The new mass of life energy flowing from both Cari and the environment off into multiple smaller streams, flowing into each one of the baby flowers, with the one for the bigger evgnomosini flower a bit larger.

Green veins could be seen from all the flowers, their glowing white now accompanied by a gentle and lulling green light flowing through them, and now a green core of light flowing through their roots as well.

It was quite taxing on both his mind and body; while he has somewhat adapted to using the energy outside himself, and seemingly having no end of the stuff when he uses his own, doing it all at once seems to pressure his mind and body like his entire being was being pressured, not enough to truly hurt, but enough to make him very uncomfortable.

But he still pushed on.

His glow was doing a lot more work thanks to there being multiple receiving ends, that being the multiple little flowers, well, at least small compared to the taller flower.

The process only ended once he noticed the flower no longer spreading the feeling of needing help.

The area now looks like a small, but decently sized field of healthy, tall grass, with a bunch of the taller Evgnomosini flowers spread about, with the ones closer to the 'parent' one being more closely-nit.

He imminently stopped, with the flowers and roots finally stopping their glowing, returning to their previous look with the green in their veins fading as well.

"Now that I think about it, I never really paid attention to how they look."

They looked like a dandelion except in an actual flower shape, with the little parts you'd blow off as the petals, except they were more layered on top of one another, making it look both see through but at the same time, solid.

They look pretty angelic.

He sat there for a few moments, appreciating the nice view, making sure to remember this for the journey ahead.

"I'm going to have stockpiles of beautiful images in my head at this point…"

He was happy with the image, so for the first time, he tried speaking aloud.

"Thank you for the wonderful scenery… I'm grateful."

Of course, all that came out was weird sounds, it sounded like a dull, constant light and hollow sound coming out of a malformed flute, even to himself, it didn't sound like anything close to words, the sound coming from where his eyes were, weirdly.

~malooooon~ ~Anoooo~

"Well, it's time for me to go."

He started heading eastward again, but before he could take a step(squirm), he felt something.

"Again…?"

But this time, all he got was one feeling, and for whatever reason, it felt extremely clear, with clarity, and to say it in one word…

Evgnomosini.

Gratitude.

He looked back at the flower, and he immediately noticed something… well, more like 'felt' something in the dirt, and instinctively, he felt that it wants to connect with him, so, he did the only thing he could even do, he released his roots, and controlled them as best he can to interact with whatever was in the ground, and once he made contact with it, something in his head squeezed.

This time, the pain was quite remarkable, and he would've fell to the ground if his roots didn't keep him ramrod up.

His body was convulsing, and this lasted a good couple of seconds, which felt like eons to Cari.

After whatever task the plant seemingly accomplished, it cut off the connection, and he felt the pain go away, and the feeling promptly disappeared, but not without Cari feeling something new in his head… new memories.

His body needed a second to let the convulsing feeling pass, but his brain was a whole different matter.

The headache he felt was minimal back when he was taking in the knowledge from En, but now, it was ringing and mind-numbing.

And to deal to this new unsettling feeling, he kept his brain calm and quiet, to let everything fix itself as it settled into his mind.

Once everything was processed back to normal, the memory was apparent, and he also managed to gain some insight into why it was so painful and… traumatic? At least to his body, especially since it was only a few memories.

"It linked up through using its own roots and my own, so not by directly linking up with life energy, and with only so little memories…

…And pair that with my young… no, scratch that, newly born body, it's not normal to feel, much less do these kinds of things so early on."

It was much more crude compared to En's method, to put bluntly, but the memories themselves were very valuable, nonetheless.

It was the energy's time of being a bee, but that wasn't the point, the point was the bee was in a village, and it even gave him directions of where to go, which excited Cari a lot.

Thankfully, the directions are due to the fact of… what's the word? Oh yeah, cross-referencing, by doing that with the information given by the flower and the info he already had from En, he was able to summarize that he needed to head...

"Southeastward, huh?"

He looked in that general direction, it was no different than looking anywhere else in this vast forest, but to him, it was special as he would meet humans, bipedal lifeforms that are the most iconic species out of the diverse bag of them he could meet.

The forest had two sections, the innermost forest, and the outer forest, and he was currently near the edge of innermost section, and with a lot of hopping and jumping, he would be out and enter the outer area.

From En's info, this forest is called, "Ginnimos Forest", to summarize, the innermost part had a few various wild monsters, animals and creatures that managed to evolve, which made them very dangerous, but luckily, they mostly keep to themselves in the very core area of the innermost section, rarely coming out to the outer zone, while the outer part holds mostly regular animals and beasts, numerous in numbers.

Although the only true difference between the two, environment-wise, is the stuff Cari first saw on waking for the first time, and still does in the surroundings, those ever-changing flowers, teal-ish green leaves on the pale-colored thin trees, those are the signifying detail that tells you have crossed into the innermost section, while in the outermost area, the trees are dark-brown with a well matching dark green leaves, and the trees are much more grandiose, high enough that you could only dream of climbing to the top.

"I will use these to identify when I get out of this magical section of the forest."

Before he started walking… ahem… jumping, he took one last look at the flowers.

"Thank you… truly…"

And with that, it has been, very roughly, a day since he first awakened, and his first full day of living has been… eventful, to say the least, and as he started jumping off towards his new destination, a human village, past the small clearing he was in, a soft, gentle, and melodious voice rang out ever so quietly…

"You're welcome…"

Nice seeing you guys after so long, sorry about the long wait, I may be a bit more productive this week, maybe, I have a large pile of work to sort through, so I can’t work as freely, but I’ll try my hardest to get through this list, and once I am done, I can take some me time, and use it to do what I love, reading, AND writing this story, I hope you understand, and maybe, one day, I can start writing this more consistently, have a good day amigos, and thanks for reading.
