Silver Stakes

After sending the message to Oziyat, Rosaline quickly alerted the other royal family members and send Sol with Princess Sylvia. She didn't trust Sylvia but keeping Sol safe was her priority. After they had left, Rosaline climbed on the front balcony from where she could see the entire colony.

Rosaline's eyes grew colder as she saw the scene below, hundreds of dark-cloaked wizards and witches were attacking the vampires. Most of the vampires fought to defend themselves but the rage was apparent in their moves. How dare these Wizards to attack Vampires in their own homes?

Rosaline then stared at the horizon. In less than half an hour, the sun will be up and the vampires would have difficulty fighting in the sun. They have to finish this fight very quickly but the pouring number of wizards and witches made Rosaline concerned. And there was still no sign of Oziyat, Christina, and her friends.

"It's not looking good," said Kale walking up to Rosaline.

"Why didn't you leave, Kale?" Rosaline asked staring at the horizon.

"The same reason you are here, Princess," said Kale pensively. "To defend our home and also Mother is still here."

"Mother . . . right," Rosaline murmured bitterly as she descended from the balcony.

"You don't like her anymore," Kale stated blankly, following her. "Is she not likable anymore?"

"She was never likable. Did you always know that? Was that the reason you never were close to her?" Rosaline asked looking at Kale.

"No. I was never close to her because she simply didn't care about me," Kale replied smiling. "I was the result of a fluke, Princess. I wouldn't be allowed to be a Prince if the King wasn't already dead. Why would she care about me?"

"And you still want to protect her? In this massacre?" Rosaline raised her eyebrows. "Are you trying to win her favor?"

"For what? The Crown?" Kale laughed out loud. "You, Volker and Oziyat, you three always were obsessed with the crown. Serves you right, that the crown hurt you the most."

"You haven't changed, Kale," Rosaline glared at him. "You are still as insufferable as ever. Twenty years and you still didn't learn how to be royal."

"Thank you, I never wanted to," Kale smirked. "Anyway, are we fighting or what?"

"You are not even trained. You refused to train as a kid, remember?" Rosaline arrogantly raised her head.

"So did your son, your point being?" Kale chuckled.

"Do not compare yourself to my son," Rosaline said with an icy look.

"I won't if you can tell me, why he is unable to cast magic, any kind of magic?" Kale announced.

Rosaline didn't reply as entered the weapon room. She intentionally stared at all sorts of weapons in the armory but her mind raced thinking about Sol.

"That's what I thought," Kale grinned picking up a blade and a handful of small arrows and sharp shurikens.

After taking weapons, Rosaline briskly walked towards the west gate. As she expected, the wizards were trying to force their way in through every entrance. Three Guardians were fighting ten wizards and they were struggling. Immediately, Rosaline swiped her blade elegantly and two wizards fell. They were no match for her. Within minutes all ten wizards were dead and Rosaline, Kale, and the Guardians moved into the next little group of wizards and then to the next. To her surprise, Kale wasn't exactly bad but he wasn't that fast with his enemies. He was attacking slowly and talking to them.

"Kale, just finish them off. What are you chatting about?" Rosaline said killing the wizard, Kale was talking to.

"It's not always about kill or get killed, Big Sister. Sometimes you need information about the killing business as well," Kale snorted. "And thanks to me, I know why they attacked us. Malgino knows Lady Christina is here and by sending this army he wants to scare us, so vampires don't participate in the war in the wizarding world no matter what. I also think they —"

Rosaline and Kale sensed a presence behind a bush and stopped. Rosaline looked at a bush and raised her hands but before she could attack Kale jumped in her way and grabbed the person hiding behind the bush.

"Kale, what do you —" Rosaline froze when she saw the person. "Sol, what the hell are you doing in the middle of a battle?"

"Yeah, your mother almost killed you, Sol," Kale said laughing, and he got back to fighting as if nothing happened.

Rosaline couldn't control her emotions anymore. She grabbed Sol and dragged him inside the castle gate. Rosaline didn't stop until they were in the castle garden.

Behind the mountains, the horizon was turning into a thin purple glow, the sun was about to come up but Rosaline didn't notice it, she whirled on Sol and he flinched.

"How did you come here? Where is Sylvia?"

"Sylvia . . . is in the . . . hiding place. She doesn't . . . know . . . I snuck out," Sol mumbled after a moment.

"Why?" Rosaline roared. "You know there is a war going on, don't you?"

Sol nodded looking down.

"Then why?" Rosaline shouted staring down at her son.

"I . . ." Sol began but something behind his mother's shoulder caught his attention and his eyes widened in shock.

Rosaline noticed it and was about to turn around when a dagger pierced just below her shoulder blade.

"I don't appreciate the tone you are taking with my boy, Rosa," said a voice.

Rosaline gasped in pain and then one side of her body slumped. Still, she turned to look at the man who stabbed her, though she already knew who it was. She just never expected him to attack so strategically.

Rosaline stared straight at Ethan's eyes, the man she once loved. He looked so different now. He looked evil. Rosaline tried to summon her magic but the silver stake prodding out of her right shoulder blade sent a shock through her right side.

"Mama!" Sol called holding her mother's waist and supporting her.

"Your mother doesn't deserve your love, my sweet boy," Ethan smiled at Sol as if he didn't stab Sol's mother right now. "I came here to take you with me."

"Sol is only leaving with you if his mother and the rest of his family are dead," Rosaline declared lifting her left hand and summoning magic. "Sol, go!"

Rosaline attacked Ethan and he skillfully dodged and pulled out another silver stake.

"Then it will be arranged but I am taking Sol with me today!" Ethan said baring his teeth.

And the couple moved in a strange deadly battle dance. They attacked each other to kill. Rosaline was dragging herself to attack and dodge as the first stake was still inside her back and giving her shocks, whereas Ethan was taking full advantage of her situation.

Seeing the scene in front of him, Sol tried to run. But as soon as he tried to get inside the castle two black cloak figures stopped him.

"You are not going anywhere, Sol, sorry," said a grim-looking wizard.

The vampires have super speed, and maybe for the first time, Chris wanted to have super speed too. Because by the time she finished checking one hallway full of rooms, Aiden and the Guardian Javier had swept the entire Castle.

"They are not here," said Guardian Javier.

"Who? The intruders or Rosaline and Prince Kale?" Chris asked.

"Neither," Aiden replied frowning. "I think the Prince and Princess are fighting outside the palace. But the intruders . . ."

"No, they are here. I saw them entering," Chris stated confidently. "Look everywhere! The stables, garden, everything around the castle."

"Okay, Lady Christina."

Guardian Javier ran to check the entire perimeter around the castle, Aiden went to check the stables, and Chris sprinted towards the garden.

The Sun was almost out now bathing the entire Titian into an orange glow and slowly every vampires' power was getting weaker. The wizards were winning and so was Ethan.

Rosaline was on the ground while Ethan and the other cloaked wizard, Graham attacked her together. A little further another wizard was still holding on to Sol, who was staring at his mother with eyes full of tears.

"Sol, fight him and run away!" Rosaline coughed as Grahan cut her side with a silver stake. "You are my son, I know you can fight! Just run. Go, please."

"No! He will fight because he is my son! My, Rosa!" Ethan shouted staring down at Rosaline. "Even after being a Princess what have you given him? He can't even use his magic. Because you never trained her. You have done nothing for him but when Master wins. He will be the King of this world and I am his most trusted person. Think about what position I have, what position my son will have. Master promised he will help Sol and he will be the most powerful wizard after Master."

Ethan finished spatting on Rosaline.

"I don't want to!" Sol yelled and kicked the wizard holding him. He then lunged on the wizard and was hitting at random, with everything he had.

"Don't. You. Dare. Hurt. My. Mother." Sol punctured every one of his words with a punch and kick.

All of this looked like a child's little tantrum to Ethan until he realized everywhere Sol was punching was getting burned.

"Sol!" Ethan shouted jumping to stop him but just when he reached him a strong and painful blast threw him aside.

"Don't touch him!" roared Chris.
