HALF A HEART

''You're just going to drown deeper.. There's no way out.. The more you try to move, the more you try to swim, the deeper you'll sink.. The most painful thing about sadness is that it knows how to trick you.. It give you time to recover just to attack you even harder.. It tricks you into thinking that it's gone and just when you start to believe it, it comes back like a big wave and drag you back into the deep dark ocean of loneliness..'' That was exactly what Jake was going through.. He thought he will find his happiness if he get a good job, buy a house for his family etc.. But money can't buy happiness.. Things can only give pleasure and pleasure is not happiness.. Happiness is the presence of peace which was no where to be found in Jake's heart.. Half of his heart died the day Abby left.. The remaining died when his own parents stopped calling his name and started treating him like a stranger.. He stopped believing in miracles long ago .. But fate is something unpredictable and unstoppable..

The Anti-Role Models

The bus ride was quite.. It was a comfortable silence.. They didn't feel the need to break it—It was peaceful..

Abby couldn't help but get more and more curious about the guy sitting beside them.. Although they had no problem with the silence but they still decided to break it and ask a question..

"So.. What about your family? You guys all live together?"

"Yeah its my parents and my younger sister"

'My younger sister Iris that you loved dearly loved playing with' he thought..

"How's your relationship with them?"

They wondered how Jake's relationship would be with his parents.. They knew Jake was a really good person..

"Judging by your personality, your parents must be really nice people.. They must be really.. caring people...like you"

Jake's smile slowly turning into a fake smile.. He couldn't tell them the reality about his parents so he just nodded..

'A person's personality is made up of things that teach him great life lessons.. I'm nothing like them neither I'll ever be.. They are indeed the reason behind how I am today' he thought as it wasn't something he could say out loud..

Most kids would look at their parents and think that they want to be like them one day when they grow up—But unfortunately, that wasn't the case with Jake.. Everytime he looked at his parents, he would think that when he will grow up, he won't ever be like them..

No matter how much he loved them, he couldn't make someone like them his role-models.. They were the kind of people Jake wouldn't ever want to be like.. They were his anti-role models..

They got off on their bus stop.. Once again Jake offered to walk Abby home to which Abby agreed..

Jake stopped by a small store to buy his pain relief patches while Abby waited outside..

Just when he was about to pay, he saw teddy bear shaped chocolate which instantly reminded him of Lily..

As he walked out of the store, he saw Abby typing something on their phone..

As Abby heard Jake coming they put their phone away..

Jake took out the teddy shaped chocolate and gave it to Abby..

"It just.. reminded me of Lily so.. Can you give it to her for me?"

As they both reached Abby's house Jake awkwardly said..

"So I.. uh.. I'll... Get going now.."

He turned around and was about to walk away when Abby stopped him..

"Wanna.. come in..? I mean... Yesterday.. you even... Promised Lily..."

Jake could sense nervousness in their voice for some reason..

Although it made his heart skip a beat, he turned around and said..

"I better not.. It's late and .. you even haven't had dinner yet.. I better not disturb you guys"

"But.. Aunt Jane texted me saying that she had to go somewhere.. So she have to leave as soon as I get home and.. She probably cooked for the three of us b-but since she have to leave now, the food will get wasted.. and.. yeah"

Abby didn't knew what they were saying.. They were nervous maybe because they didn't wanted Jake to go just yet—They couldn't understand why..

They took out the chocolate he gave them for Lily and handed it back to him..

"Give it to her yourself"

Once again he felt his heart skip a beat..

He couldn't help but agree to it..

He have craved for this feeling for 8 years after all..

They both went inside and they were welcomed by Ms. jane..

"Oh you're home- Jake! I wasn't expecting to see you today! How are you!" She had a big smile on her face as she welcomed Jake..

As soon as she said his name, a small girl peaked outside from her room..

Her small body was hidden behind the door, only her head could be seen..

Jake grinned and copied her actions by looking at her with his head tilted like he was peaking out as well..

"JAIIKEEYYY!" Lily exclaimed as she ran towards him with her arms wide open..

Jake kneeled to the ground with his arms wide opened as well.. Lily hugged Jake wrapping her tiny arms around him..

"YAYYYYIE!!!!!!"

Jake picked her up, hugging her back..

"Missed me that much huh?"

Lily nodded with excitement..

"Well then, Jakie have a gift for you"

Lily looked at him with a big smile and he gave her the chocolate that he bought for her..

She gasped..

"EETS AAA TAEEDDYYYY!" (It's a teddy)

Meanwhile, Abby was talking to Ms Jane..

Jake was so busy talking to his 'new best friend' that he didn't even noticed when Ms Jane left and Abby went to the kitchen to set up the dinner table—But when he noticed, he followed them to the kitchen..

"Need some help?" He asked while holding Lily in his arms..

Abby just shook their head with their back facing Jake and continue heating up the food..

One thing that Jake didn't noticed was the genuine smile on Abby face..

They didn't had a good relationship with their daughter, they were never there for Lily.. Abby couldn't even look at Lily because she reminded them of Zayn and all the pain he caused them..

But Lily was still their daughter afterall.. Seeing her happy with Jake made Abby feel the happiness that they haven't felt in a long while..

Jake helped them set the table and they all begin to eat..

No words could describe the feelings of both of them..

They both couldn't name that feeling..

Was it happiness? Was it peace? Was it Joy? Or was it a mixture of all those emotions making both of them feel whole for first time in a long while..
