282 282. A Debt

White light fell in the middle of a crowded street on some island in the New World.

~Dammit, I didn't pinpoint my returning location. Where am I?~ He asked himself.

He looked around to find out where he was. It seemed like a Waste Processing Plant as the whole place was littered with mountains of scrap metal and factories.

He saw a boy running in front of him, "Hey, kid. What's the name of this place?"

The kid looked at him like he had seen the biggest fool of the century. "You don't even know that when you are standing here?... Wait, I've seen you somewhere"

Alexander took out a chocolate bar, "Tell me and you can have this."

The boy's eyes shone for a second, "Yes Yes, this place is called Spider Miles, kind sir."

"Hah, here you go." he handed him the chocolate. But then they both looked at the street because people had suddenly become noisy.

He saw a man in a pink bonnet and purple aviator sunglasses, with a yellow pacifier in his mouth. He was also wearing a blue scarf with white polka dots around his neck with a pink bib underneath it, and something that resembled a diaper.

"What is his problem?" Alexander asked.

The kid answered, "He's the city clown, Senior Pink. His wife got into an accident and got paralyzed. He's become like this since then. I heard he also had a son but something happened, he works for the local gang."

Alexander silently followed the man to see what he was up to. He followed him into a hospital and then to a room. There was a woman sitting on the bed like a lifeless doll.

~This should be his wife.~ He thought.

He heard the man speaking something, "Russian, I have come again, like every day. Please smile for me."

The woman did smile and it shocked Alexander. He didn't know the whole story of what happened between them. Neither was he interested, there were too many bad things in the world and he couldn't know them all.

But being kind towards others didn't require you to know anything. You just do it.

Alexander cast magic from the door and checked her body. Her spine was damaged which wrongly pressed her nerves. In short, it was not brain or nerve damage.

So he cast healing magic on her body. It would have caused her a lot of pain normally so he first made her fall unconscious, much to the shock of the strangely dressed man.

Then Alexander left the hospital and went to the criminal gang that ran the place. The island city didn't have a king or royal family. It just had an elected mayor. So a slight use of magic made sure the man cooperated.

He took out the Den Den mushi and called one of the nearby Commanders of his army.

"Ah, Doffy-chan. I just took over Spider Miles. Come and set up a branch here. I've already built a fort." He spoke.

On the other side, Doflamingo sneered, "Come on, Grandpa. I told you not to add 'chan' with my name. It spoils my style."

"Haha, you will always be little Doffy-chan for me who wore weird glasses. Is Rosi-chan with you too?" he asked.

"Nah, he went to another island we just took over. It's called Notice. It's a small island town, very wealthy but also a target of pirates." Doflamigo explained.

"Okay, you can come here then. I will be going back to Paradise." He instructed him and hung up.

He then called Dobby, but when Dobby picked up he heard weird laughing noises from the other side. "Hey, Dobby, where are you?"

"Ah, you're back, boss? It's just been a few hours," Dobby said.

"Yes, Hela only needed help in making medicine. Now, where are you? I'll come to you?" He inquired.

"I am on an island called Momoiro Island. It's not far from Alabasta." Dobby answered.

"Okay, I'll be there soon." He hung up and flew away.

Inside the Hospital that Alexander just left, Senior Pink shouted for a doctor to come as soon as he saw Russian fall unconscious.

The Doctor did the checkup, "It seems she is tired. Come tomorrow maybe."

Senior Pink eased down a bit after hearing that but was also saddened, knowing that this meant her health was deteriorating and unknowingly a small tear slid down his face.

All this was because of his own mistake. He had originally told Russian that he worked in a bank. But when he went out on a raid, his newborn child got a fever and passed away, she tried to contact him by calling the bank but found out that he didn't work there.

It broke her heart and she left him during the storm and got caught in a landslide in her path. He was sorry for lying to her but he didn't have any option. Even less now as he needed to pay the hospital.

He dejectedly started to leave the room.

"PINK?"

He suddenly heard a voice he thought he would never get to hear for the rest of his life. He looked back and saw Russian getting up.

He ran up to her with his eyes instantly tearing up. Meanwhile, the Doctor was going crazy thinking how did this happen.

"Russian, a-are you..." He stuttered and touched her face.

Russian also teared up, "Yes, I can move again. Thank you."

She finally cried. For the past few years, she saw Senior Pink come to see her every day and tried to make her smile. She wanted to say 'I forgive you' but no words could come out of her mouth, nor could she cry. So with all her strength in her body, she was only able to smile for him every day.

"I forgive you, Pink. I forgive you." She repeatedly said.

Pink quickly hugged her tightly. "I am sorry, Russian. I am bad, very bad. Let's start it again. I will really become a bank employee now. I swear I will never make you cry again."

*KNOCK KNOCK*

A knock came from the door. Both of them looked at who it was. It was a small kid.

The kid entered with an envelope in his hand. "Here, that old man told me to give this to you."

Pink opened it and read it loudly, "Usually I kill criminals like you, but I felt moved by your love for your wife. I know how it feels to be helpless and hopeless, seeing your loved one in front of you on a sickbed and not being able to do anything to save them.

"So, I am giving you a chance. Don't let this go to waste. Keep her happy or else I will be coming."

Russian and Pink had an idea of what happened now. Russian's miraculous recovery was very unnatural. But they still didn't know who did it.

"Kid, who was the man that told you to bring it here?" Pink asked.

"He only paid me 5 chocolates for bringing it. If you want more info I will need payment." The kid seriously said like an evil capitalist.

Pink just gave him money, "Buy ten with these. Now tell me."

The kid went to the side, picked up the newspaper, and showed the front page to them. It was an article with a declaration of United Kingdoms of the Seas.

"This is the old man who hired me. Now, I am leaving. Happy doing business."

Pink started shivering while holding the paper. "It seems I used my whole life's luck today."

The doctor heard everything and decided to speak, "You are a lucky man, boy. These days, miracles like these don't come in cheap and you got it for free. I hope you heed his advice. And even if you want to go back to that life you can't. The island was just taken over by the Golden Army's commander, Doflamingo. He's very strict with criminals I've heard.

Russian again cried, "Pink..."

He looked at her. She continued, "God gave this second life to us. Let's make a happy family now. I will work too so you don't have to worry about finding a job"

He again hugged her, "No, dear. I will work hard, you won't have to push yourself."

He calmed her down and looked at the shining sun outside the window. ~Thank you for giving me my life's light back, old man. I will never forget this debt.~
