Today I woke up to Wake licking my face. Quite a nice way to wake up I've always been a dog person and shes just too cute to not be happy having her wake me up. She does look a little bigger than yesterday maybe it's the mana stone I feed her.
"Good morning Wake, morning Sensei."
*wan* 'Good morning to you too, so what's the plan for today."
"I want to find a human town, I'm sick and tired of roasted deer mean and that goblin meat wasn't any better if anything it was worse. Plus it looks like I have no talent in cooking as the skill still hasn't gone past level zero. So do you know the nearest human town?"
'I don't, but Wake might.'
"Oh and how would you go about asking this little pup for directions?"
'She's pretty smart actually, and because she's your divine even though she might not understand your words themselves she should be able to at least get the meaning behind them.'
"Door. Okay Wake could you lead me to the nearest place with other humans?"
*wan*
Nodding her little head she then points it in a certain direction, so cute. Lifting her up I pet her before putting her on top of my shoulders.
"Okay Wake I'll go that way then, just say something if we start going off course."
*wan*
Walking in the direction Wake pointed in it doesn't take long till I hear what sounds like an intense fight. The clashing of metal reaches my ears accompanied by a fierce roar. Picking up the pace I'm interested to see how others of this world fight. Finally a party of three humans fighting a huge brown bear comes into my view. Three men, one is wielding a large shield and short sword, one has two short swords, and the last one and archer. Them seam to be at a disadvantage, but their coordination is almost perfect. The duel wielder is doing the most fighting, looks like he has a high strength and dexterity. If the duel wielder is about to be hit the archer applies a bit of magic to his arrows and stops the bear just long enough for the duel wielder to get out of the way. The shield bearer is doing the least amount of damage, but has also taken the most of it he's got to keep the bear away from the archer. Almost perfect, but the bear is getting desperate it knows it's going to die, but it's determined to take at least one of them down with it. With what may very well be it's final roar it charges at the shield bearer with all of its remaining strength. The shield bearer is unable to dodge and is blown all the way over to a tree near me. Wow he's almost dead that bear is pretty strong. It's funny I'm watching this man die, but I feel nothing from it. I wonder if I heal him will I get anything from it, these guys seem pretty well equipped.
"Hey shield guy if I heal you what do I get from it, basically I'm asking how much your life is worth to you?"
*Cough* "Haha quite blunt aren't we stranger, I'll give you my share of this quest as well as enough money to make up the other two shares as well?"
"Good enough for me, Mana Touch, Light."
The shield bearers wounds heal at a slow, but visible pace. He gets up and stops the remaining charge from the bear saving his archer teammate. The archer is shocked to see his friend still alive and even being healed with some strange magic, so shocked he runs up and hugs him.
"Brother Vol how are you getting healed?" The archer removes himself from the shield guy, Vol and asks with tears swelling up in his eyes.
"I have to thank that strange healer." Vol says as he points in my direction.
"Haha no need for thanks, just keep up your end of the deal and all is well."
"Brother Vol, Brother Dale, what's this about a deal with a strange healer." At this point the duel wielder comes up to us.
"Bother Vince I promised this healer my share of the mission rewards as well as gold equal to the amount of the both of your shares."
"I'll pay him for my share, after all without him healing you I would also have been hit by that beast."
"Well since you two are both already paying him how could I possibly let you pay my share as well. I'll pay him as well, if that's alright with you sir healer."
"I don't care as long as I get payed, also no need to call me sir healer my name is J and this little one is Wake." *wan*
"So J your a tamer who knows healing magic, though I've never seen a light element demon like that before most of them have gray fur and can't cast any magic. You must be quite luck though I don't think it'll be too useful in battle. Although you've already heard out names I'm Vince, and these are my sworn brothers Vol and Dale."
'Wow I didn't even have to make up a class or anything he just did all the work for me.'
"Yep and I'm looking for a place to eat and sleep, this past week in the forest has been quite rough on me."
"I wasn't going to say anything, but have you really been living in this forest for the past week. Your equipment even look self made?" Dale questions while looking at my makeshift weapons and hide armor. I certainly do look like some sort of caveman, at least I got my black hair back after changing my mana stone to null this morning.
"I have been, and I'm quite proud of my equipment it might not be the best, but it gets the job done."
"Enough chit chat Dale come help me dismantle this thing." Vince looks like he's having a tough time with dismantling the bear. Dale goes over to help him and I'm left with Vol to talk too.
"So Vol can you tell me a little about this mission?"
"Ah yeah it was commissioned by a famous blacksmith in town and we picked it up at the guild. He wants the beasts mana stone and hide, the rest like the claws can be sold to the guild. The reward for the mission is a free imbuement on any three equipment, but we would have to provide the mana stone for it."
'What's an imbuement?'
'Am imbuement adds an elemental damage or defense to and equipment depending on the mana stone used.'
"Oh that's pretty useful I can see why he's a famous blacksmith."
"I know right. Hey looks like those guys are finally done with dismantling wana join us for a meal?"
"How could I possibly say no to a free meal after living in these woods, could Wake get some too?"
"Haha no problem, hey Bros lets cook some of that meat for J and his little friend while were at it. No point in wasting any of that extra meat we can't take it with us anyways."
The three sworn brothers light up a fire and in no time the bear meat is cooked. We all start to dig in especially Vol. I guess that fight really took a lot out of the guy, or maybe he always eats this much. Personally this seasoned meat tastes godly to me. After our meal we start walking towards the town and Vince starts up some small talk.
"So J what makes a talented tamer like you live in the forest for a week like that, I hope you don't mind me asking."
"Not a problem, hmm a change of scenery I suppose. I came from the kingdom in that direction and just started walking." Saying so I point in the direction of the kingdom.
"Sorry for asking I've heard that place is getting worse and worse since the demon invasion, it's gotten to a point were I heard they might even summon some heroes to help."
"News certainly spreads fast, they have summoned some heroes, and hopefully the situation doesn't end up getting any worse if so I pray for the heroes safety."
"Certainly. Well we're finally back, welcome J to Mellow Town."
