17 A Little Change

"Monsters! Deeeemons.....Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!" A fat old man with a white moustache said.

This guy's name is Professor Port and he is one of the intructors of the academy.

Currently in Grimm studies 101, everyone right now was completely bored. They were either sleeping in class or playing games on their desk with the old strategy of using books as their cover.

The only one who was listening was Weiss, but she was bored because all of it was absolute nonsense. The majority of his words was about Port bragging his achievements when he was in his prime, and not about the Grimms itself.

Jin was also completely bored as hell but wasn't asleep. He was just checking some messages in his scroll.

'Nothing special about you old man. If anything's special then its your fancy ass moustache. I mean, look at that thing. It's fuckin beautiful.'

"Our planet is absolutely teeming with creatures that would love nothing more than to tear you to pieces, and that's where we come in! Huntman....and Huntresses." He said while winking at Yang which just made the girl cringe.

Professor Port then went into a long brag about his victories and stories of his youth.

Weiss just rolled her eyes and decided to not listen to him in this part. She then looked beside her and saw that Ruby was drawing something on her paper while letting out weird noises.

'This little.....'

She then held her paper up for everyone to show, and in it, was a crappy drawing of their instructor and the label 'Professor Poop'.

Weiss had a slightly annoyed look for some reason and Yang just laughed her ass off.

Port noticed their antics and he let out an "E-hem!". The trio immediately behaved before Professor Port continued in his boring stories.

Jin was seated right behind Yang and he noticed that Weiss was fuming while watching Ruby, that was not paying attention and was doing some stupid stuff.

'I know that she was frustated for not being the leader of her team. But why is she angry at Ruby right now?'

Weiss' anger was increasing every second as Ruby continued in doing her antics. The moment Ruby started picking on her nose, was the trigger that made Weiss silently erupt.

Meanwhile, Port was still rambling about his story, until he said some magic words.

"A true huntsman must be strategic, well educated and wise! So, who among you believe themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?"

"I do Sir!" Weiss raised her hand with an angry look on her face, which made Port wonder why she was angry.

"Well then, let's find out! Step forward, and face your opponent!" Port said as he turns to gesture his hand at a shaking cage, which obviously has a creature in it as it was letting out animal noises.

Soon, Weiss changed into her regular attire as she steps up in front. The area there was quite spacious, which allowed for proper duels and sparring sessions.

She does her stance and readies her Myrtenaster, which was weapon that looked like a multi-inked pen in rapier form.

The creature growls in its cage as her teammates cheered her up from their seats.

"Goooo, Weiss!" Yang cheered as she raised her fist.

"Fight well!" Blake cheered while waving a small flag saying 'RWBY'.

"Yeah, represent teeeeam RWBY!" Ruby cheered.

Jin couldn't help but sigh at this. They were acting completely silly, but it something that he could appreciate since they were being supportive towards one of their teammates.

Weiss lowered her sword before looking at her leader in annoyance, "Ruby! I'm trying to focus!"

"Oh, um...Sorry...." Ruby apologized with a sheepish face.

"Alright!" Port said while standing besides the cage with an Axe-Gun in hand.

"Let the match.....begin!"

The professor swinged down his Axe and breaks the lock, dropping the cage door and revealing a Boarbatusk inside.

The boar-like Grimm immediately charges at Weiss. She uses Myrtenaster to deflect its attack and roll to the side and the Grimm just went passed her.

She prepares herself for its next move, but the Grimm just stood still, a distance away from its enemy. It was analyzing her.

"Ha-ha! Wasn't expecting that, were you?" Port said.

Jin narrowed his eyes as he analyzes all the possible holes in Weiss' fighting style and in the same time, looking at any sign of weaknesses that she has.

"Hang in there, Weiss!" Ruby cheered.

Weiss thrusts her weapon as she charges towards the incoming Boarbatusk. She points her blade straight at its head, but when they clashed, the Grimm managed to parry the strike and trap her weapon with its tusk.

"Urgh!"

Weiss was still hanging on to its hilt and was being tossed around as she struggled to get her rapier back.

"Bold new approach. I like it!" Port commented.

"Come on Weiss, show it who's boss!" Ruby cheered.

Weiss then turns to glare at Ruby, the Boarbatusk takes this chance and strongly turns its head, launching the sword out from her grip.

Myrtenaster flies and lands far away from its wielder as Weiss was knocked back by the creature's tusk.

"Oh-ho! Now, what will you do without your weapon?" Port remarked.

Weiss got up, she then looks up just in time to see the Boarbatusk charging at her again. She rolled out of the way and the Grimm crashed into a nearby desk. Weiss then makes a run for her sword and she slides to quickly grab it.

"Weiss! Go for its belly! There's no armor underneath-...."

"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss yelled as she cuts Ruby off and glared at her.

Ruby looked hurt at Weiss' rebuttal while Jin just frowned at her action.

Meanwhile, the Boarbatusk leaps into the air and rolls into a ball, spinning rapidly as it lands on the ground and launches itself at Weiss.

It rapidly closed in, but Weiss activates her 'Glyph' semblance and solidifies it into a shield. The Grimm crashes head-first into the shield and it squeals in pain.

Weiss then created a Glyph up behind her and solidifies it. The Glyph turned into black as she leaped on to it before launching herself at the Grimm with her Glyph increasing her momentum.

She drives her blade in the Boarbatusk's stomach and it squeals loudly before dying.

Weiss took deep breaths in relief as Port praised her, "Bravo! Bra-vo! It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training!"

Weiss then properly stands up from her exhausted state as the Professor continued in his speech.

"I'm afraid that's all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and....stay vigilant! Class dismissed!"

Weiss had an angry look on her face as she turns away, walking hurriedly out of the class and ignoring her teammates.

"Sheesh, what's with her?" Jaune said as she watches Weiss leave.

The remaining members of team RWBY looked at each other with the same question. It was then that Ruby stood up and ran after Weiss.

Jin just shook his head at Jaune's stupid question and he also stands up from his seat. He then got out from the classroom and went into the hallway.

Jin decided to follow Weiss since he wanted to talk her, until suddenly, he started hearing some voices and he quickly hides himself.

He took a peek and saw that Ruby and Weiss was talking.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you being-?...."

"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you?! You're supposed to be a leader, and all you've been so far is being a nuisance!" Weiss said to Ruby as she cuts her off.

Ruby scoffs, "What did I do?"

"That's just it! You've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continued to do so!" Weiss said.

"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about 'working together'? I thought you believed in acting as a team." Ruby said with a sad look on her face.

"Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And quite frankly, I deserve better." Weiss said before she turns her back on Ruby, who was trying to reach out to her.

"Ozpin made a mistake." Weiss added before she walks away.

Ruby dropped her hands and looked down in dejection. Jin let's out a sigh before he saw Ozpin appearing behind Ruby and talks with her. Jin knew that Ozpin would cheer her up so he decided to talk to Weiss.

.....

It was afternoon.

Weiss was heading towards the balcony of Beacon Academy's rooftop, when suddenly, she saw Jin leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.

"Jin, What are you doing here?" Weiss asked. Jin moves out from the wall as he looks at Weiss and approaches her.

"Weiss, we need to talk," Jin said with a narrowed eyes, which made Weiss a little nervous.

Soon, the two were in the academy grounds where the Beacon statue was. Jin was facing Weiss as he had a serious look on his face.

"So….care you explain why were you acting like that towards Ruby?" Jin asked.

Weiss glared at him, "Your sister is acting like a complete nuisance! She's supposed to be a leader but she's not acting like one!"

Jin was unfazed at her words as he asked, "Oh? Then tell me, who should be the leader of team RWBY?"

"ME! I deserve it! I studied and trained to be a Huntress. All that studies and training went for nothing because a little brat became a leader instead of me!" Weiss ranted while an angry look.

"Is that your reason?" Jin asked. Weiss' anger vanishes, and was replaced with a surprised look on her face.

"W-What?" Weiss stuttered in confusion.

"Is that your reason why you're acting like that towards Ruby, because you were jealous of her becoming the leader?" Jin said while having a cold face, making Weiss flinch.

Jin letted out a scoff and continued with a disappointed look on his face, "The way you act right now is not like someone who trained or studied to become a huntress. Its like your a spoiled little princess that didn't get what she wanted."

"How dare you talk to me like that?!" Weiss said with an angry voice.

"Well, it's only been a day and you're already judging Ruby as a leader. If I was the leader I would have seen you as a drag." Jin said with a harsh tone that caused Weiss to flinch.

Jin continued, "You think that it was easy for Ruby to become a leader. She's never been in that kind of position before. It's only been a day and being a leader is not easy. Some were a natural born leader while some were made. What you're doing right now is not a sign of being leader."

"But I was born to be a leader! I worked hard to make my path in becoming a huntress!" Weiss said, full of indignation.

"And you think everyone else didn't? Ruby and I worked our asses off to become good students in Signal. We got the Headmaster's attention because he saw potential in us and offered us to be in Beacon at the age of 15 and that's saying a lot!" Jin said before letting out a sigh.

"Look, all I'm saying is that, just give Ruby a chance. You said that you've studied and trained to be a leader, right?" Jin said and Weiss gave a nod.

"Then guide her. You said that you know the basics, then guide Ruby in becoming a leader. Not to be the best leader, but to be a better person. Besides, if you continued with that attitude of yours then you would be lonely, all alone." Jin said with soft tone at the end. Weiss slowly lowered her head in hearing this.

Jin's eyes softened when he saw this before placing a hand on her shoulder, "Think about it, Weiss. I know that you can become a better person."

Jin then walked passed her. Weiss was having some complicated thoughts before she looked at Jin's back and muttering, "I guess I can do that. Thanks Jin."

Jin heard her, but he just continued to walk away with a small smile. He knew that Weiss' words was genuine. He believes that his talk was successful and he could only hope that Ruby and Weiss would settle their problems with each other.
