"Taxi!" Xiajun shouted to a small yellow cab.
The taxi stopped beside Xiajun on the road and he got in the passenger seat at the speed of light. The middle-aged taxi driver frowned, noticing the haste in Xiajun's movements.
"Where to, mister?"
Xiajun pointed forward. "North. And please step on it."
The driver did not, in fact, step on it. "Mister, I asked where you want to go. Any destination...? Restaurant? Hotel?"
Xiajun was contemplating if running on foot would have been a better option after all.
"Listen," Xiajun hissed impatiently, suddenly grabbing the driver by the collar whilst the poor man recoiled in alarm, "some nasty kids stole my car and drove off with it. North. That's where we're going, got it?"
The driver nodded, gulping. "Absolutely, sir."
Xiajun settled into his seat as he took a deep breath, wondering how a group of tots could have even broken into his car when it had a top-notch security system? Had there been a fault in how he had left the car in the spot since he had had a lot on his mind then.
Xiajun scoffed. No way. There was no way he had been careless with his car, he was not that sort of person. So had mere kids become so smart in the past couple years without him noticing?
Xiajun tapped his fingers restlessly on the dashboard as his eyes searched the streets, stopping nervously every once in a while on a black vehicle. Each time it wasn't his own.
Kids, Xiajun thought to himself. F**cking kids.
"Step on the gas, won't you?" Xiajun exclaimed.
Just as he was about to lose all hope, Xiajun's keen eyes noticed a black Bugatti speeding recklessly down the road, whizzing past trucks and motorbikes as if there was no tomorrow.
"Chase that car." Xiajun pointed, and the driver hesitantly complied, for he wanted to get this over with.
The next few moments went by in a blur. Xiajun leaned forward in his clenching his hands together as the cab got closer and closer to his Bugatti. His rear windshield was tined from the outside, so he couldn't see who was inside, but he knew damn well that whoever it was didn't know the first thing about driving a car.
"Overtake them," Xiajun commanded the driver as he pulled out his phone. "Overtake them while I call the police."
The driver gulped. "Um, mister, am I gonna get in trouble? I-I... I have kids at home-"
Xiajun sighed in frustration as he dialed the number. "No, not you. Shut up, won't you? You- Hello?" He talked into his phone. "Ah, yes, I'd like to report a car theft. Yes, a black Bugatti Veyron. Last seen? Um, I'm chasing the car down in a cab, road...?" Xiajun glanced momentarily at the driver, who cleared his throat before replying.
"Hennessy."
Xiajun nodded. "Yes, we're on Hennessy Road... What? I believe it was three kids. Look, sir, if you don't come as fast as you can, there WILL be an accident, and I don't doubt it. Right, number plate is A.001253. ...Thank you. Uh-huh. Okay. My name is Li Xiajun... Yes, from AIM Investigations. Right, thanks." He ended the call and stared straight ahead at the still speeding car, which has by now attracted attention from several annoyed drivers. They were shouting at it from their seats as it whizzed by.
"They're on their way," Xiajun spoke. He relaxed in his seat as the driver glanced nervously at him. It was a full five minutes and two roads later that Xiajun heard the police sirens.
He turned in his seat just in time to see a black and white police car pass him and overtake his Bugatti, which showed no signs of slowing down. These damn kids had no limits.
A few more police cars joined the scene and they speeded to overtake the Bugatti and stopped in front of the car, forming a barrier to stop it from continuing. But The Bugatti did not slow down and rammed at full speed into the side of a police car, the impact creating a fierce CRASH!
"Stop the car," Xiajun hissed to the cab driver.
Vehicles all around stopped on the road and people piled out to watch what was happening whilst the policemen emerged from their cars with guns in their hands.
"STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE!" someone called on a crackling megaphone. "STEP OUT WITH YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!"
Xiajun stepped out of the cab and nodded to the policemen, who recognized him immediately and nodded back. Slowly, with his hand hovering over the concealed mini gun in his waist band, he approached his car.
'It's just kids,' he reminded himself as he flexed his fingers. 'Just some kids playing around. I should be fine.'
With a yank, he pulled open his car door and stared in at the thieves.
Three innocent faces stared back. Faces he didn't recognize.
With his deft eyes, Xiajun scanned the scene once and decided that none of them bore any threat to him. "Right," he said bitterly as he reached for the teenager nearest to him. "Get out of my car."
