While Miss Rong set the table, Xiajun was deeply aware of Junjie glaring at him.
"Daddy, daddy!" The little girl came running out of nowhere, wearing a cute pink polka-dotted dress. "Gramma won't let me play with Bear!" Only then did Xiajun notice the brown stuffed animal that the girl clutched to her chest. But instead of a bear, the toy looked more like. . . a dog. "Gramma says I must study even though tomorrow is a school holiday!"
Junjie patted his daughter's head lightly, a kind smile on his lips. "Come now, Eumeh, you must listen to your grandmother." As he spoke, an old woman with frizzy white hair and a hunched back entered the room, her eyes scanning keenly at each face present. She didn't even pause when she noticed Xiajun. Her only concern was little Eumeh, who proceeded to hide behind her father, squealing.
"You little brat!" The old woman hissed as she crossed the room, her arms outstretched. "Must you be so difficult?"
