Act 5, Chapter 6

You were relieved when you could finally see your house between the trees.

'Is Chrollo there?'  was the first thought that popped up before another one could open up.

Normally you would now be thinking about what you were able to make yourself to eat today and what was programm was running tonight on the TV

The fact that Chrollo was your first thought made you cringe a little.

'He's still a ghost, he's dead' you reminded yourself.

Subconsciously you slowly realized that you were beginning to develop more and more empathy for the spirit in your home.

Was it his sad background story or was it his charisma that elicited this feeling?

Whatever it was, your mind tried to fight back.

As you drove up the driveway, you looked up at the window and could just about see it closing.

In your mind you were already complaining to Chrollo about him telling you he wouldn't just open the window anymore.

That included closing it again when you just got home.

When your gaze turned away from your bedroom window, it landed briefly in the rearview mirror.

Something pink disappeared behind the many trees whose crowns blocked the sun's way to the forest floor.

You turned around quickly, maybe you could get another look at it.

But whatever it was, it was long gone.

You furrowed your eyebrows.

What the hell..?

You were pretty sure there weren't any bright pink animals, except for maybe a handful of bird species.

And even those kind of birds would rather live in warmer areas than in this area.

But there was nothing to be surprised about, which is why you got out of the car a few moments later with your eyebrows still furrowed.

You threw your bag over your shoulder while you pulled your front door key out of your key ring.

As you turned it in the lock, a freezing wind blew past you, reminding you to ask Chrollo about the window.

You could have cried when you thought about how freezing cold it would probably be in your bedroom again and a sense of deja vu came over you.

You've thought exactly the same thing before, only you didn't know anything about Chrollo at the time.

"You liar!" you yelled as you walked through the door.

One of the wooden floorboards creaked under your feet, the house's way of saying hello to you.

You walked towards the sofa and flopped down on it after slipping the bag off your shoulders.

It was late afternoon and due to the time of year it was starting to get darker outside, although it was still quite early.

"Sorry." Chrollo's voice suddenly sounded next to you and you jumped violently.

"Sorry!" he apologized again as you pressed your palm to your chest to steady your racing heart.

"It's okay..." you mumbled and took a deep breath to let your body know everything was fine.

"You're a liar." you said again as you kicked your shoes off your feet and took off your jacket.

"Sorry, getting used to it..." Chrollo replied, a mischievous smile on his lips and you thought you could see a blush on his cheeks.

"If you're going to do it, at least try not to cover it up by quickly closing the window as I pull up the driveway," you explained.

By now you had gotten up and took your bag, your jacket and your shoes into the hallway to put them where they belonged so they wouldn't get in the way.

But instead of answering you, Chrollo said something else.

"So how was your first day at work?" he asked.

The question stopped your movement for a moment, bringing your heart to a halt for a second before it beat faster and blood pumped into your face.

"G-good." You replied, cheeks flushed after recovering from your minor shock and you made your way into the kitchen.

But even there you weren't alone because just a moment later Chrollo was leaning against the fridge.

,,And? What have you been up to?  What were your responsibilities?" he asked and you could feel his eyes on you.

You didn't expect that him tl be interested, you never would have guessed it.

You grabbed a glass from the cupboard, filled it with tap water and took a few sips before answering his questions.

"Actually, I almost only sorted things in and had a conversation with the boss at the beginning and at the end, he explained a few things to me, such as other tasks that I will have in the future.  But he said it would be better to start slowly today so I can get a feeling for what it's like in the store." you explained.

As you talked, you walked towards the fridge which Chrollo was still leaning against and when you were done talking you shooed him away with a wave of your hand.

The whole time his eyes were on you, making you nervous and it was difficult for you to keep your cool.

You opened the fridge and grabbed a snack from it.

"And, did you meet anyone?" Chrollo asked.

The bite you were trying to swallow almost got stuck in your throat when he asked that.

You were so good at pushing the topic of Hisoka away.

Your face seemed to speak volumes and Chrollo burst out laughing at the look on your face.

"As a new beginner you get a 'guardian' who accompanies you for a while at the beginning..." you explained, went back to the sofa and let yourself fall on it again.

"And let me guess: you find yours anything but good?" asked Chrollo amused but his question was more of a statement.

The first response he got was whiney noise from you before you responded verbally to him.
