Resilience in Echoes: The Undying Battle

" Bring it on " He exclaimed, ready for a counterattack of his own.

SSSS!!

In unison, the sonic bats prepared an attack ready to once again, blast him into smithereens.

Ossa in turn, swiftly picked up a stone throwing it at the bats, disrupting their attack.

" It worked...they need time to prepare that sound attack of theirs, " Ossa thought as he observed them flying out of the way, their attack disrupted.

Squee!!! Squee!!!

" Aren't so tough now?" He said internally, his eyes mirroring the mockery he wanted to convey.

Squee!!! Squee!!!

The bats scattered, circling him as they individually shot a sonic blast at him.

The blast came from different directions catching Ossa off guard.

" Whoo!! Smart creatures " He thought as he dodged two, only to be hit by the other two he failed to dodge.

His rib cage and right femur cracked, slowly breaking as they took the brunt of the sonic blast.

"This will..." He paused in his thoughts as he dropped the axe, kicked the exoskeleton segment off the ground, and used it to defend against a sonic blast aimed at his head.

BOOM!!! He fell to his knees his ulna and radius cracking as two of the four sonic bats attacked at once.

" How I wished this had a handle " He exclaimed as the improvised shield he used required both of his hands, his finger always shattering when he blocked a sonic blast.

The bats did not relent as they shot blast after blast, the impact cracking his knee bone which was still on the ground, supporting him as he held the improvised shield in place.

" How can I fight, if the only thing I'm doing is defend " He thought as the situation seemed hopeless.

He had procured a weapon but could not use it, as it lay by his side, while he was busy defending.

" Don't they get tired " He exclaimed as the onslaught of sonic blasts continued, cracks forming on his improvised shield.

[ Why do you defend?!... You are an immortal skeleton warrior, fight as one ]

Francesco's voice echoed in Ossa's head as Mors changed its voice, trying to reawaken the instinct of the warrior skeleton he was.

" Yes master " Like a robot responding to its master's call, he responded, his tone and eyes devoid of any emotion.

He let go of his shield, taking the brunt of a sonic blast from two of the ware bats.

Squee!!! Squee!!!

Finally getting a hit in, the ware bats celebrated happy to have finally hit their target.

SQUEE!!! An ear-piercing wail resounded in the forest as their happiness was short-lived.

One of the four ware bats hurtled towards the ground, an axe in its chest, dark red liquid gushing out from the point of contact of the axe and the bat's chest.

squee!! squee!!!

Surprised by their brother's sudden cry, the three remaining bats looked in his direction, only to find him hurtling nose-first down, an axe in his chest.

Confused, the three flew toward their brother circling him as they tried to help him up but it was too late, as its eyes were closed, its heartbeat stopped.

squee!!! squee!! squee!!

The bat came close to the ground still unable to help their brother up.

With a thud, it fell, its neck bent in an unnatural direction.

" Master was right, I should fight like the immortal I am, " Ossa said internally as he looked at the events unfolding.

As the bats hit him with the sonic blast, his body shattered but not entirely.

His skull and limbs were still intact with his rib cage and vertebra completely shattered.

As an undead that did not require a brain or nervous system to control its body, its right hand crept towards the axe, levering the joint with the ground. It threw the axe, hitting the unsuspecting bat squarely in the chest.

The sonic ware bats were weak, their strong suits were their ability to fly, and echolocation, with the most deadly being their sonic blast. If one can overcome all that, they fall with little effort.

" Still, I need more mana, It still takes too long to heal, " Ossa said internally as he looked at his ribs and vertebra slowly forming.

A notification signaling the death of the warebat had already sounded transferring the life force to Bel and the system.

squee!!! squee!! The bats had landed around their dead brother, nudging him with their noses.

Confirming he was dead, they turned their heads in the direction of the annoyingly resilient skeleton, their pitch-black eyes screaming with murderous intent.

SSSS!!!

" I can't dodge that, " Ossa said internally as his body had not fully formed.

Remembering the words of his master, he moved one of his limbs away from the rest of his body, rolling his head out of the way as well.

QUEE!! BOOM!! A sonic blast, as powerful as that of the one created by the combined force of the four ware bats was released by the enraged three.

Ossa's skeletal frame took the brunt of the force, shattering into a million pieces.

" I might not heal this time, " Ossa thought as he saw his body being blown to smithereens.

He had rolled his head to a safe distance, his right arm with him.

Taking advantage of the dust created by the sonic blast, he rolled his head toward the corpse of the first ware bat he had killed.

With his fingers straightened he plunged a hole into its chest, digging out the golden yellow core. Slowly he rolled the core towards his head, pushing it into his opened jaws.

The orb entered his mouth, disappearing almost immediately.

" This is not enough..."

BOOM!!!

Before he could finish his thoughts, his skull was blown to smithereens as the bats had located him with echolocation before the dust had settled.

After a couple of seconds, fragments of his body started to converge, slowly attaching, materializing his bony body.

SSSS!!! QUEEE!!! BOOM

Before his body could fully form, he was once again hit with a sonic blast from the three enraged bats.

Noticing that the skeleton could regenerate, they decided to wait until he regenerated. Then hit him again and again until he could not regenerate anymore.
