Firing The Rings(Reboot)

I am the Trifect...

The leader of all the Forerunner civilization. All Forerunners chose a path and specialize. Builders, Lifeworkers and Warriors. There are other paths like Miner, Engineer and Juridicial. I was called the Trifect as I achieved mastery in the Builder, Lifeworker and Warrior paths. I stood at the pinnacle. I was also capable in all other paths as well. The three I mastered are what I considered the most important for our purpose.

I also am the only Forerunner to successfully undergo the immortality procedure. Which took DNA of a Precursor and integrated it in my own genetic code. All in order to achieve immortality and a higher order of power. There were many other volunteers besides myself. I was already known as the Trifect when I volunteered. Many tried to stop me.

I was stubborn and confident. Although, I did undergo the procedure successfully. My success was never replicated and the project was abandoned. It was chalked up to a miracle of chance. A side effect being impotence. Which greatly irked me. I spent much time over the centuries fixing that side-effect. Just when I had succeeded, terrible things came to light.

First was the revelation of the Flood and second was our inability to defeat it.

We were failing...

We never fail. We resolved ourselves to save our galaxy no matter the cost. The Halo weapon system was built. I personally worked on it. However, construction cannot be done in a snap of the fingers. It takes time to build them. Then it takes time to spread them out. Which is what we are doing now.

Every Forerunner had a task. All to fight the Flood. Sentient species and all others we could get were stored away in an inorganic form. Using the technology of the composer. They were stored in units that composed them into inorganic particles that is living data. Then they would be made flesh again when they exit the storage unit. This way, we have preserved all sentient life.

Now, the last few dozen of my species were fighting outside and inside the citadel I was in. I was in a control room in this grand citadel. Where the Halos can be fired. I was chosen to, "push the button".

My ancilla told me, "Halo Rings in position. The time is now Tri..., Star Forever in Luminance."

I sigh, "We will always fulfill our duty, as it is our responsibility to care for this galaxy. Even if we must win with our dying breath. Life WILL continue. Good riddance, Flood."

I press the hard-light button and the Halos fire. The wave of light was see near instantaneously. I was already prepared to be wiped just like the rest of the last defenders.

However, the light never hit me. I was suddenly sucking into a micro slipspace portal. Narrowing missing the light of death.

Now I was in a ship, a Dreadnaught. A Supernal Spiral-class Keyship. A ship with the best slipspace capabilities.

I yell out, "Ambience! What has happened!"

My ancilla materialized in hard-light with a difficult expression, "The counsel came together and decided to make sure at least you survive this. This ship was sent beyond the galaxy with all our knowledge stored inside of it. A pure, composed gene template of perfect Forerunner genetic code. They decided, along with the entire population of our civilization, to place hope in you."

I fell to my knees and roared, "You meddlesome...aaaggargh! You would place this insane burden upon me? Let me feel alone as the last. Deny me peace?"

I calmed down and tears went down my face. I then got up and laughed a bit, "Of course they have. I've always been the one to never fail no matter what. I am the obvious choice for this. This is the responsibility of the strong and the capable."

Ambience smiles, "They knew you would be up to the task and your extraction to this ship would go well. You were always the...lucky one. The counsel agreed on that."

I laugh again, "I suppose so. Despite my mastery and expertise, I did a lot of crazy things that shouldn't have worked. I shouldn't be alive right now. We were never able to quantify luck you know. Yet I know it exist, and I have endless amount of it so far. I hope it keeps up."

I go to sit down in the captains seat, "Time to get acquainted with my ship."
