The truth

Nothing can take you by surprise,

If you learn to see what's in front of your eyes.

Clara came to visit me in the hospital at my grandmother's request. I am so happy to see her, I have so many questions to ask her.

"Your grandma told me that you wanted to see me. So how can I be of help to you ?" She asked me as sat down on the sofa.

"I wanted to talk to you since that day at city hospital. I wanted to know what you were trying to tell me before Maja threw you out."

"That, it is nothing for you to worry about and it was nothing important."

"If it was nothing important then why did she stop you from telling me ?"

"Listen Adrian, the thing is what happened in the past between the three is not for me to tell you and if you really want to know then ask Maja."

"If I wanted to do that then why would I ask you and if she didn't allow you to tell me then why would she tell me."

"You just have to ask her nicely and I am certain she would tell you."

"Can you at least tell me why she hates you and Natasha."

"That was my doing, I hurt her and now she hates me and as for Natasha even I don't like that girl. She was your friend back in highschool but after what happened, after what she did to Maja you stopped being friends with her. You don't hate her but you don't like her either."

"Aren't I supposed to be getting married to her ?"

"You made sure to keep your distance from her but that hasn't stopped her from forcing her way into your life. She did get your mother to arrange for both of you to get but you bluntly refused her. You told me that Maja is the one for you and if not with her then you rather die a bachelor."

"Why did I tell you that ?"

"If I am being honest, I was madly in love with you back and you didn't want to hurt me by having me expect you to love me in return. It broke my heart but I got over it."

"I am sorry about that but if I may ask is Maja a good person or is she only with me for my money."

"What ! Who told you that, I will have you know that the Salvador's are the second wealthiest family in the country. Maja does not care about such things as she made it very clear to everyone that she wants nothing to do with the family wealth. By the way why would you ask me that ?"

"No reason, still you haven't told me if she is a good person."

"Well as far as I know her I can say that she is someone who believes in treating people exactly the way they treat you. If you hate her she will hate you and if you love her then she will love you."

"Does that mean that you hate her because she definitely hates you."

"No, I don't hate her. I am actually trying to be her friend again, I messed up and I am trying to fix everything and I don't know if she will ever forgive me but I hope she does."

"So she was the victim of both you and Natasha ?"

"I wouldn't go as far as calling her a victim I would rather say that you and I misunderstood her and ended up unintentionally hurting her."

"Why did she leave the country ?"

"She left after we both hurt her."

"Everything seems to connected to this incident you keep referring to but you won't tell me what happened. At least tell me what I did."

"You broke her heart over and over again."

"Did you and i ever date each other ?"

"No."

"How did we misunderstand her ?"

"Why are you asking me all this when you should be asking Maja. As I already told you I really want her to forgive so we can be friends again but that can only if I'm in her good books. I can only do that if I don't do things to upset and I am 100% sure that she will not be happy if she finds out about our talk."

"You don't have to worry so much about that I haven't seen her since yesterday."

"What do you mean by that isn't she here with you, she hasn't returned home since yesterday morning when she left to come see you."

"What ! Where could she have gone? I think I made a big mistake."

"Mistake ? What do you mean ?"

"When she came here yesterday I pushed her away thinking that she had bad intentions for being with me. I thought that she was trying to trick me into marrying her."

"How could have done that when it was you who approached her with the marriage proposal. Your grandmother went above and beyond to arrange this alliance. They even collided with her grandfather to trick her into coming back into the country for you. Then how could you think of her in such a manner. You must have hurt her by doing this."

She took out her phone to call Maja's friend Cheryl to ask her if by any chance she is with her. The call went through and they talked for a while before she ended the call. She turned to me and by the look in her face I have a feeling that she doesn't have any good news to share with me. I hope nothing bad had happened to her because of me. How could thought of her in such a manner, where did those thoughts even come from.

How did I go from never wanting to let her go to pushing her away, how could I hurt her by doubting her like that. I will never be able to forgive myself for what I have done. How could I have looked into her eyes and tell her that I will marry someone else. I think along with my memories I lost my senses and intelligence as well. I must apologize to her until she forgives me.

Clara told me what Cheryl told her and her words shuttered my heart into a million pieces.

"Maja went back to London immediately after leaving the hospital yesterday."
