Robbery Gone Wrong

It was late and Lea walked on the dark and quiet street which seemed eerie. The night came with a cool breeze that blew against her face as she walked on the silent street making some strands of her hair loose at the sides.

All she heard was the sounds the crickets made and she walked hastily to the place where she would board the bus home.

On her way, she heard rustling noises behind her and she turned to see if someone was following her, but there was no one. Somehow she did not feel scared and she continued walking.

After she walked some distance, she heard the same noise and this time when she turned, she saw dark silhouettes behind her which looked like three men. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the silhouettes approaching her.

"Who are you?" she questioned in a stern voice. Normal people would run in this situation but she didn't know where she still got the courage to stand there, going far as questioning them although her heart was pounding right now.

When she turned to her front, she saw three other men dressed in hooded clothes coming close to her.

They held dangerous weapons. One of the men removed a small knife from his side pocket and swirled it open in a swift movement of his hand.

"Hand over your purse and your phone," he said in an authoritarian voice, but Lea did not budge.

She walked back slowly trying to keep them from drawing near.

"If you don't want to get hurt, just hand over the damn purse!" another one of the men said in a gruff voice.

"Don't come any closer," she said, now surrounded.

One of the men came nearer to snatch the purse and Lea raised her hand in an attempt to stop him reflexively, but when she did that, a strong sudden force of wind erupted from her palm which sent the man sprawling on the ground as he was thrown back with a great force. He groaned loudly in pain and both Lea and the other men's eyes widened.

Lea was shocked to the bone at what had just happened and she trembled from the shock. She had never felt this way before; being trapped and also the powerful feeling that she felt running through her veins as she threw that man across the ground.

The other men who saw what had happened took to their heels, shaking with dread as they screamed..."WITCH...WITCH"

Lea was left all alone in the middle of the quiet street, the silence engulfing her as what had just happened sank deep into her. She looked at the hand she had used in throwing the man, turning it sideways as she stared at her hand in utter shock. Her jade eyes filled with questions about what had happened to her. She had felt a strange yet powerful sensation coursing through her body for a short while and she couldn't understand what was happening to her.

"What had just happened? Did she just throw a grown man across the ground with just the wave of her hand? what was happening to her?!" her mind screamed the thoughts in her head.

She grabbed her bag and run toward the bus station where she was lucky that there was a late-night bus present there. She hopped onto the bus and went to sit by the window, her mind was dazed with what she did a few moments ago and she just sat there unmoving.

When she reached her destination, she climbed off the bus and walked mindlessly toward her house.

When Mr.Gordon saw Lea approaching the house, he called out to his wife and yelled,

"Lea is home."

he ran out of the house with his wife behind him and went to embrace her. Lea was startled by the slight action of her dad and was pulled from her thoughts to her present.

"Lea, where have you been? We have been calling your phone but you didn't pick up." Mrs.Camille said when she got closer to Lea, alarmed.

"We were just on our way to your office to check if something had happened," she informed Lea, who seemed absent-minded. By that time, Nicole had come out of the house too to see her sister in their father's embrace.

Mr.Gordon released Lea from the hug and looked at her face. She had a distant look in her eyes and Mr.Gordon turned worried on seeing her gloomy facial expression.

She was looking like how she did years ago when she was coiled up in her shell unwilling to open up to anyone. Mr.Gordon's heart squeezed on seeing that long-lost expression and he wondered if something had happened to her to make her look that way.

Lea remained still, not speaking a single word. It seemed as though she was in a daze.

"Lea...Lea..." Mrs. Camille called out to her when she saw her eyes partially closing. Her body swayed, but Mr.Gordon caught her right in time. She had fainted.

Both parents and Nicole panicked when they saw Lea lose consciousness. Mr.Gordon carried her inside the house and went to lay her on the sofa in the living room.

"Lea, Lea.." Mrs.Camille called out her daughter's name."Gordon what has happened to her...why is she unconscious? she questioned her husband as she shook with fear. She was almost crying now.

"I don't know what happened to her, she just fainted." Mr.Gordon said to his troubled wife.

Nicole was equally worried and she tried to console her mother.

"She will be fine, mom. Don't worry."

Mrs. Camille touched Lea's forehead and realized that she was burning up with fever.

"Nicole, go get a small towel and some cold water." Mrs. Camille said hurriedly when she felt Lea's temperature rising.

Nicole dashed out of the room and went to bring the things she was asked for.

Mrs.Camille who was seated on the sofa where Lea's head lay dipped the towel into the water, she squeezed the water out and pressed the wet towel on Lea's forehead. She did that for a few minutes before they saw Lea gaining consciousness. She squinted her eyes before she fully opened them.

"Lea...Lea..." Mrs.Camille called her when she saw Lea waking up.

Lea slowly raised herself from her lying position and her mother helped her to sit up carefully on the sofa.

As Lea raised her hand to touch her head, the memories of all that had happened moments ago flooded her mind and she grimaced.

"Are you feeling okay?" Mr.Gordon asked when she was fully conscious and Lea slowly nodded her head.

"Did something happen? Lea" came his next question.

He wanted to know why she had fainted.

Lea pursed her lips. She was pondering whether to tell them or not because she knew they would be extremely worried than they were right now if she did.

She parted her lips to speak but she closed them again. In the end, she decided to tell them since the situation was quite serious and not forgetting that she needed answers to questions that were bothering her about what happened to her.

"I was almost robbed, dad" she finally managed to say.

Upon hearing Lea's words, both Mrs. Camille and her husband as well as Nicole's eyes widened like saucers. Their jaws hung open in shock and they stared at Lea whose gaze was lowered.

"What!" Mr.Gordon exclaimed."What do you mean by you were almost robbed?"

Mrs.Camille whose hand was now covering her mouth in shock waited for Lea to answer her father's question.

"When I realized that I was late, I hurried out of the company and I decided to take the bus here, but on my way, six robbers surrounded me, threatening me to hand over my purse and phone,b...but.." she narrated what had happened but she didn't know how to tell them about the last part of that occurrence.

"What happened after, Lea? Mr. Gordon urged her to speak.

Lea parted her lips,

" W..When one of the men came closer to me, I threw him across the ground with the wave of my hand," Lea said, but she wasn't entirely sure if her parents would believe what she was saying.

"Eh..what do you mean by you threw him across the ground with the wave of your hand? I don't get what you're trying to tell us." Mr.Gordon asked as his forehead creased with confusion settling in his eyes.

"I don't know where it came from but, when I raised my hand toward him, a strong force from my palm threw him across the ground and they all ran away,", he explained and both Mr.Gordon and Mrs.Camille's eyes widened except for Nicole who seemed quite confused with all that she was hearing.

A frown appeared on Mr.Gordon's face and he asked Lea,

"Can you try doing it again? I mean the thing with your hand."
