Apology

"Are you alright, Xia?" Li Wei asked as he crouched down next to his wife who was sitting on the ground, resting against the trunk of an old tree with sweat beads covering her face.

"Yeah!....Just....just a little bit.....tired...."

She replied in her tired tone as she shook the bundle of Purple Spirit Grass that she had collected so far.

Li Jun had already fallen asleep under the shade of the huge tree on the other side of the clearing and Li Wei was also done collecting a lot of wood while their little wifey was busy playing around.

He took out a clean handkerchief from his robes that were hanging on one of the lower branches of a tree and returned to her side. "Here. Let me help you." He offered in a soft voice before starting to wipe the sweat off her forehead. He was so gentle and serious that it brought a small smile to Da Xia's lips which she tried her best to hide.

"Here you go. Feeling better?" He asked after making sure that there was no more sweat visible on her face or neck.

"En! Thank you," Da Xia said with a quick nod as she stood up and dusted her dress to get rid of the dirt.

"Why did you waste your energy collecting this grass? Look at your tired state." Li Wei asked, or more like reprimanded, in a soft tone as he followed her to where Li Jun was still fast asleep.

"Don't look down on these little grasses. They are way more useful than what you think." Da Xia said before she crouched down next to Li Jun and started poking his cheeks to wake him up.

"Wifey, let me sleep." Li Jun spoke in his sleepy tone as he pulled both of her hands in his own in order to stop her from poking his cheeks.

"Jun'er, wake up. It's time to head back home." Li Wei said as he put on his robe and went to collect the woods.

"How are we even going to take them home?" Da Xia asked as she stared at the pile of wood but then was immediately left dumbfounded when the pile started flying in the air in Li Wei's direction.

"Wow!"

She was seriously amazed at the powers that her husbands were able to use ever since their deaths. Either they were now able to use some of their demonic powers or these powers were just perks of joining the society of spirits.

"Problem solved. Let's go now." Li Jun suddenly spoke next to her ear, making the girl gasp out loud in shock.

"I thought you were sleeping." Her tone almost sounded like a complaint as she looked at him with a pout on her lips, making her husband chuckle as he entangled their fingers together and started following behind Li Wei.

"The sun is about to set. We should hurry up." Li Wei said as he looked at the horizon that had turned various shades of pink, red, orange, yellow, and purple.

"Let's go then." Li Jun added in reply.

"Wait a minute!" Da Xia suddenly shouted as she pulled away from Li Jun and ran in the other direction, plucking another Purple Spirit Grass that she had noticed.

She hurriedly stuffed it in the bundle with the rest of the grasses and stood up to follow her husbands who were patiently waiting for her. She did not notice anything weird about the grass which was clearly glowing in a light shade of purple unlike the other Purple Spirit Grasses that she had collected.

"Why am I so tired? Are souls even supposed to feel tired?" Li Jun asked as he collapsed on the stairs outside the kitchen.

He and his wife had been working on fixing the kitchen for the past three hours or so while Li Wei was assigned to cut and polish the wooden planks.

Da Xia was also tired to death and her muscles were aching because of all the hard work that they had put into upgrading their small kitchen. But she was also happy at the same time because all their hard work had ultimately paid off. Their kitchen now looked far better than before.

She walked toward the well and picked up the bundle of Purple Spirit Grass. Opening it, she collected the fruits that she picked up in the forest, before sending the bundle inside the system for the kitty to take care of.

She washed the fruits and then walked toward her husbands who were keenly observing her every move.

"I'm sorry. I promised to make delicious food for you guys and ended up making nothing at all, plus all the work that you did just to help me settle the kitchen. It's already past nine o'clock and both of you have eaten nothing. I'm really sorry."

She kept her eyes trained on the floor as she handed them the fruits. For some reason, she was really feeling upset for continuously putting off their meals. The realization of what she had been doing since the morning only hit her when she noticed the tired state of both of her husbands.

Though even she was surprised to see them getting tired even when they were no longer alive, there was no one who could explain the mystery. Everything that was happening with the two of them was completely surprising and new.

"We will forgive you if you promise to make breakfast for us in the morning. How about that?" Li Jun asked as he took hold of one of her hands and pulled her to sit between him and his brother.

"I promise." Da Xia did not waste even a single second before she hurriedly accepted his condition.

There were smiles on the faces of all three of them as they ate the fruits while having a simple chat under the star-filled night sky.

They finally retired to bed around ten o'clock. Both Li Jun and Li Wei slept on the floor while she got the bed for herself. The caring and understanding nature of the brothers only made Da Xia feel more protective toward them.

And it was just the mere beginning!
