Family of the Sunflower

Ever since Alektrona watched a movie about faeries, she always believed in supernaturals. When people told her there are no such things as supernatural, she always replied, "If there are no such things as supernaturals, where did the myths and legends come from? Imagination? Hallucination? I don't know! But I would love to know and meet one," She says it with a bright smile but, once she meets their confused gaze, she looks back at them with the same confusion as them. "I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who believes in spirits and faeries... right...? " And look at them expectation in her eyes. Her answer makes others fall speechless apart from her grandmother, who loves Greek mythology. Although Alek believes in the existence of supernaturals, she's never encountered one. God knows how many books she's read about Supernaturals. Alek talked to everything she sees and asks them, "When will you guys finally show up to me and start a conversation? I wouldn't tell anybody! I just want to meet you guys so that I couldn't die happily. So I'll be here, waiting for you guys to show up and talk to me." *********** Alek sneakily entered the room and was greeted by a boy facing toward the window opposite the door that she just entered. She thought he was Kai. She prepared to scare him. But before she tried to do anything, he snapped his neck to where she was standing. She was caught off guard. But what she saw next was enough for her brain to stop functioning. "What the..." Alek could not continue. The boy looked like her dead brother, Aether. *********** "They are not friendly, especially the Shiwasu." Astraea told her niece. "If you can't prove that you are able to replace her, then we are all doomed." Everyone was listening to her with serious faces, even the youngest looked like she knew that would be the end. "I will prove it." Alek spoke with determination in her eyes. ------------------ This is the story about shape-shifters and some parts are written in Japanese in roman alphabet as this book contains a little bit of Japanese culture and tradition. Can You Teach Me That?

When Robin returned to the room, he heard his nephews and daughter talking. The door was closed the way he had left it but, it didn't shut out noises from the inside. Plus, he had a supernatural hearing. It wasn't that hard to eavesdrop on their conversation again.

"If I leave uni, I will be going to dads. How would I explain that to him? 'Hey! I have superpowers. So I have to go to a different school to learn better!'" Alek said with sarcasm evident in her voice.

"Alek..." Castor called out.

"I don't like keeping secrets, especially to him! He has told me everything, and I also tell him everything. It feels unfair to him. It doesn't feel right." And before Pollux could retort, she continued. "I know, it can be dangerous to him. I don't want to put him in danger. I know that. But if I leave uni, and he asks me why, I don't know if I could face him."

"To be honest, I don't know what you are going through. But as an elder, I want you to keep in mind that we are on your side." Jin held her shoulders and smiled. His smile was comforting. It was almost like Aether.

"Thank you. By the way, where do you go?" Alek asked after holding his hands.

"We go to human school." Rin answered.

"Then how come I need to go to supernatural school if you guys are in human school." That was against the logic, right?

"Because we have been training since we were small. Our powers were activated as soon as Aether died. Maybe the cause for us to have our first shifts was a shock. You were shocked and, that is what kept your animal from appearing and, we had the opposite effect. Anyway, since then, we have been training with grandpa and grandma. But for you, we don't know when Kiryuu will take over you. It can happen in public. We can control our beasts but, you can't. You are new to this. As much as you say Kiryuu is now under your control, we can't fully trust that. I'm not saying I can't trust you, Alek. It's just that she can take over depending on the emotions you are feeling. Most of the shifters who are new shift as soon as they get upset or angry. And the same thing can happen to you. What if you were with your best friends when that happened? It's not easy to shift back when you are angry and, the beast could go feral to the emotions. You can hurt them." Rin spoke to Alek while staring deep into her eyes. "So I think you can also think about this. I will fully support your decision but if I were you, I would go to your dads."

Alek fell silent. She didn't consider that possibility. Hurting her best friends was one of the things on her list of never wanting to do. Lying/keeping secrets from them followed them.

When the room went silent, they felt someone trying to reach out to them. They opened their mind and realised it was aunt Panacea.

[Hi.] She greeted them. It sounded a little deep from her usual voice.

[Hi, aunti.] The twins replied in unison. [What's up?]

[Is there your uncle in the room?]

[No. He was but left minutes ago.] Jin told her. Somehow, they could feel she was not in a good mood.

[I know he was there. Now, would you mind telling me what he says when he comes?]

[Sure.]

[Of course.] They felt something bad was going to happen and didn't want to go against her. He had heard from his father and uncle that the women in the family were very scary. The twins sometimes felt intimidated and scared with their little sister and, their mother was worse. So what is the danger level of their aunt? It was unknown. And that's is the reason why they wouldn't test her. They weren't taking any chances.

[Thank you.] Panacea told them before she walked away from their minds as soon as the twins replied.

[No problem.]

[Have a good day.]

Whew. Jin and Rin sighed as soon as the storm was gone. When they looked up, they saw that Ale had her face down. Meaning she didn't see them communicating.

Knock knock.

"C-come in." Alek looked up from her hands.

"Hi, again." Robin appeared from the doorway. He looked a little pale. Somehow the boys felt that it was their aunt who made him look like this. They weren't wrong, though. Panacea had shouted at him in his mind as soon as she was told that he hadn't apologised. It had been a while since she had shouted at him like that. Looked like he needed to buy flowers and macaroons for her later.

"What's up, dad?" His daughter asked. She wasn't done deciding but, her mind was already on one side. It's just that she still wasn't satisfied with the answer. He sat in the same seat he sat before.

"I am here to apologise for my earlier actions. I may have said things a little blunt."

[MAY? You call that A LITTLE BLUNT?] His wife suddenly came into his mind and scolded him.

"I mean, really blunt. I didn't consider what you went and going through." Robin corrected in an instant. He could still hear his wife not satisfied with his words.

"It's okay, dad. You were telling me the things I need to face. There is nothing wrong with that." Alek told him. He was harshly speaking the truth.

"Really?" He asked.

"Yeah. You don't need to feel guilty or anything." She gave him a smile.

"Oh, my baby girl!! You have grown!!" Robin immediately hugged his daughter like she was a dog.

"My muscles are sore, dad." Alek told her father.

"Oh, sorry honey." He let go of his daughter. His wife now told him to come back to the room. "I have to go and, again, I am sorry."

"No worries, dad."

"Love you now and always." He then blew her a kiss before he went back to his angry wife in a haste. Maybe flowers and macaroons wouldn't be able to please her now. She would take them and still be mad at him.

[I'm I think you know what happened...]

[Yeah...] The twins mind linked their aunt.

[I do. Well, thank you for informing me.] She told them. Her voice was softer than before but still a little deep than normal.

"Was that mum?" Alek asked. This time, she saw their eyes shift at the same time as her father left.

"Yes." Jin answered.

"Why?"

"She just wanted to check on you but, she said she was occupied, so she asked us." Rin lied smoothly.

"Oh. Can you teach me that?" Alek asked. Her mother wouldn't need to go through the trouble of asking her cousins if she knew how to communicate directly.

"Sure..." Rin said. "Close your eyes. Think about someone that you want to connect to. Soon, you will see like a door to them."

"I do." Alek spoke. There were doors on where her two cousins were. It looked like normal doors if they weren't emitting lights. Castor's were moss green, while Pollux's was navy blue. "Now what do I do?"

"Go to the door and knock." He continued. He sounded like a hypnotist that controlled her mind.

Alek walked to Pollux's door and knocked twice. The door opened soon and, she entered.

"Hi." Rin spoke to her in his mind.

"What the f*ck?!" She jolted her eyes open and looked at he cousin. He also opened his eyes. He was even smiling at her.

"Hi." He sounded a little different from in the mind.

"Hi. Is that how it's supposed to be?" Alek asked.

"Yes." Rin spoke. "Let's try again. This time, try to reach Jin."

"Okay." Alek nodded and smiled at the other cousin before she closed her eyes. She repeated the same thing Rin said and, soon, she saw the two doors again. This time, she chose the moss green door and knocked. Again the door opened. She hesitated for a moment before she entered.

"Hi, Alek." Castor spoke to her. She didn't get surprised this time.

"Hi." Alek spoke. She then saw him standing in front of her. He was wearing the same clothes from the physical world.

"Hi, Alek." Rin appeared out of nowhere and stood next to his cousin.

"How did you do that?" Alek exclaimed. "How are you here?" She entered Jin's door and not his.

Rin answered after he chuckled. "I will teach you later after you master this one."

"O-okay." Alek said. "So this mind link?"

"Pretty much." Jin replied.

"It feels weird. I don't feel anything."

"Of course. You are in your head." Jin answered with a laugh.

"Okay. Can I practice this?" Alek asked.

"Sure. But first, you need to get out and reconnect again." Rin told her and, she closed her eyes to come back.

Alek opened her eyes and saw them staring at her. "So does this only work with people in the room?"

"You can find out that by yourself." Rin put his elbow on his brother and spoke.

The future head of Minazuki closed her eyes in concentration. She was now getting the hang of it and, it was not long before she saw the familiar doors. She cocked her head to one side, indicating that she was stuck.

Jin laughed softly. "Now, look around."

She did as she was told. She looked around. Soon, she found a door far away from her. It was hot pink. She walked to the door. She knew that it was Bia. Alek knocked on the door and, the door opened smoothly.

"Yes?" Bia asked from inside the door. She didn't know who it was since she didn't recognise the person visiting her mind.
