14 Chaos at Firm 1

'Is it good to be lost in thoughts?

I pondered to myself

My brain said no, it's not worth,

But heart rebelled, said you desire it,

Staying away from real world,

Losing yourself in the world of fantasy,

In the world of earthen coloured eyes,

Soothing voice and that strange feeling,

To be around him, to hear his voice,

To see him one more time…'

Evelyn wrote her thoughts. She woke up early with no nightmares this time. She sat straight on her bed and found that it was drizzling outside. The cold breeze entered the room through the window giving her goosebumps.

She went towards the window and looked out. Hills were covered with fog, making the sight mesmerising. Fragrance of the earth flared her nostrils as she closed her eyes to feel the sensations.

Opening them, she saw the raindrops hitting the ground. The wet brown soil reminded her of the eyes of the brown-eyed guy. She felt a strange feeling developing inside her.

She wanted to express herself and found writing the best choice. She dipped the quill in the ink bottle and wrote down her feelings to cherish the newly developed emotions.

She didn't know why she was thinking about the stranger early in the morning, whose even name she didn't know. Nevertheless, she enjoyed the moment and didn't stress herself to rush over things.

Looking at the clock she saw she had a few minutes left for breakfast. She dropped the quill and got herself ready for breakfast.

"How is your firm going, niece?" Admiral asked at the breakfast table.

"It's going well, uncle. Thanks for asking. We now have around ten employees," Evelyn said. Each word displayed how excited she was.

"That's nice. Good luck with it," he replied, taking a bite from the bread. She nodded and smiled at him. Her father quietly ate his breakfast.

Renaud was a quiet person. His experience in worldliness and logical solutions made everyone admire him. He always held a serene face and didn't much participate in small chats. This doesn't mean he wasn't paying attention. He was omniscient for a reason. He listened to people, thought about it and then made decisions, coming to a perfect conclusion.

Evelyn had planned to take a round at the firm and get back to practising the sword techniques. Second tier was still two weeks away so she thought she could spend her time with Bele and check the firm work side by side.

Clicking sound of the footsteps caught everyone's attention at the table. A man in formals came into their view. The councilman looked tense.

"What happened George?" Admiral asked.

"Mr Wilkin, sorry for the sudden appearance. I need to inform you something. It's urgent," he said.

Admiral nodded in understanding. The councilman came towards him and leaned forward, whispering something. With the horrified look on her uncle's face, Evelyn comprehended it was an emergency.

"Well, everyone. I will have to go." Her uncle said and rushed out with the councilman in his carriage. She saw how her uncle had to leave without having a proper breakfast.

After her mother's death, Admiral dedicated himself completely to his people by joining the council. He decided not to marry as it might distract him and weaken his sentiments. Evelyn admired his workaholic uncle.

"Soon you too will get busy with the council once you clear the exam which I am sure you will do." She heard her father speak. She sensed the sorrowness behind his words. Even though it was subtle, she could tell he was sad, after all, he worried for his only daughter.

"Don't worry father. I will always take out time for us like you used to get time for me when I was young," she replied.

Renuad nodded and taking a bite he said, "Do well in the exams Eve."

"Sure father. I will," she replied.

She had her breakfast quickly and as planned she went out towards Earl. Being already informed by her, Earl waited for her at the carriage stand.

"Good morning my lady," he greeted her with a broad smile.

"Good morning!"

"How have you been today?"

"I'm doing good. How have you been?"

"Excellent as always," he said, smiling widely.

"You won't stop using the title even when no one is around right?" She said. Her face held a sulky expression as she looked at him.

"Never will I, my lady. Shall we leave for the firm?" He asked bowing dramatically.

"Sure sir," she said with the same dramatism.

"Earl," she called him while she sat in the carriage.

"Yes, Eve?"

"There was an emergency at the council. Do you know something about it?" She asked. It was always Earl who enlightened her about current affairs. And she always relied on him for the information as most of the time they were accurate.

"No. I didn't hear anything about the cases in which involvement of council is mandatory," he informed.

"I see," she murmured.

"Did something happen?"

"Just that uncle Admiral left the breakfast table in a hurry," she replied.

"Maybe some council related documents I guess," he replied.

Evelyn nodded in understanding and brushed the thought. She thought about how the work might be going in the firm.

As soon as they reached the Isabel firm, they heard yelling and screams of people. Evelyn looked perplexed as the last time she had been here everything was tranquil. She wondered what happened suddenly to the peaceful environment?
