Chapter 3- Double Trouble

The sun was slowly setting when my phone vibrated indicating someone was calling, I took the phone and recieved the call, my mother spoke from the other side "Good morning Ari, how have you been? How is your work going? Have you been eating properly. How many hours did you sleep last night?" I smiled at her banter and answered " Good morning mom, I am fine, my work is going great, I had a P&B sandwich and slept for six full hours" she sighed in relief and said "Good, you always make me worry. Anyways you know that your sisters wedding in coming up next month" I replied with an yes. She said" Well there has been a change in plans, Emma and Oliver decided to have a destination wedding at Los Angeles." I questioned "And?" She said "Well you know how busy she is with all her works and she is hardly getting any time to plan for it, so we decided that you are going to arrange the wedding in Los Angeles" I was shocked, " What do you mean by I have to arrange the wedding " she said " It's just everything is pre-booked and you have to just check the arrangements and inform us accordingly. You know I am alone and can't do anything to help so I am requesting you please do this for your sister"

I angrily shouted back at her, "Mom, don't you know how much work I have, don't you know the pressure I am in. It's not like she is the only one working plus it's very difficult to apply for holidays and anyways it's not my wedding that I am going to arrange for it." My mother replied" I know honey, but I am so helpless, I have the two of you for eachother, after your father's death there is no one to help us, and you don't have to do it alone, Oliver's cousin will help you out with it. Please Ari it's your sister's life you can't back out. Please I BEG YOU."

I sighed helplessly and replied, " I am not sure if they are going to accept my demand of holidays but I will try my best" my mother said,"I know whatever I just said might be a childish request but please help your sister with it. You know I love you Ari"."I know mom", I whispered back and cut the call.

I sank deeper into my chair, closed my eyes and started thinking about my new responsibilities, when my phone vibrated for the second time, it was Marie, I picked up the call and greeted "Hello Miss Marie" she said, "Good evening Miss Hill, please come to the chief's office as soon as possible."with that she cut the call

I hurried to the chief's office and smoothened my dress before knocking the door, th chief said,"Come in". I entered the office and the chief motioned for me to take the seat and I sat with Marie standing on my side and chief seated infront of me

The chief said to me,"Marie your proposal was amazing, I really liked it and I think that Mr. Knight will like it too" I smiled and said,"Thankyou sir."

The chief nodded and said," Please prepare yourself to leave New York today by evening 8p.m. this is a very serious case, so I request you to handle it with care, Miss Marie will share the rest of the details with you.Do you have any questions?"

I was about to say no but then I remembered what my mother said. I asked the chief,"Sir I have a request to make" Chief curiously asked," What request do you have?" I said," Sir it's already 15 th this month, after I reach Los Angeles and complete the work there it will take a few more days, so after I complete my work, so can I take a few days of holidays until the mid of the next month. I have my sister's wedding coming up" The chief wore his serious expressions and said," The request you make is very obnoxious, but I can allow you if you are successfull with your proposal and if Mr. Knight is pleased with your work then you may have your holidays".

I smiled and said, "Thankyou so much sir, I assure you that I will try my best to please Mr. Knight and make my proposal successful" The chief nodded and I came out of his office, Marie came behind me, handing me all the details, flight tickets etc, but the details of the hotel stay was missing so I asked her," Thankyou so much Miss Marie, but I am not able to catch an insight of what hotel or in which place I am going to stay in Los Angeles" Marie smiled and said," You don't have to worry about that, after you reach Los Angeles Mr. Knight's car will pick you up and he has arranged for your stay." She handed me a slip and instructed me," Here take this, once you reach the airport make a call on this number and the rest will be done, and yes don't loose it." I nodded and said "Okay. And thankyou for your help"

I quickly drove myself home and packed my duffle bag,a suitcase and another backpack full of clothes and other necessities, I took my purse and put my passport, ticket, mobile and some cash into it. Then I packed some food items and a pair of shoes and drove to the airport, my flight was at 8:05 p.m. and it was already 7p.m.

I managed to reach the airport and got the formalities done, then I bought a book from the airport stores tittled 'Her Malice' a spicy romance novel, I never sleep in a flight, I don't know but for some reason sleep never visits me on flight.

I boarded the flight, they booked me a business class seat. The flight took off and soon after that dinner was served with mashed potatoes, grilled chicken, garlic bread and cheese along with a side of salad, a New York cheesecake and a glass of orange juice. The meal was wholesome.

After my meal I checked the workings of my software, after I was satisfied with its workings, I switched it off and started reading my newly bought novel, it was the best me-time I was having after several weeks.
