47 Where Is Everyone?

G was going to bleed out both goats, the reason I got both was that I'm not sure if the Ranked beast meat is edible, so I had to get the normal goat. But Rose remind me that in the games we used to play, the ranked beast drops materials, thus the F-Rank goat was going to become our guinea pig to see if we can get something from it.

If this works, I'm going to be so regretful that I didn't take at least a part of the alligator with me to use it as leather for protection.

I left the house with Rose again.

'Why are you trying to complete the hunting mission now?'.

Complete the mission later with all the group would have been better. Now that I thought about it I haven't mentioned the mission to stop Jamie's plan to anyone. I didn't have it when I talked with the others about the system, and I forgot to tell them that I got this one.

"I have a mission to stop Jamie in less than a week and I want to be prepared to do it. The only method I could think is with battle experience, even if human and beast are different I get used to all my capabilities better than with the spars with G. Also the additional points could help me got some tool".

She wasn't surprised by the fact that there was another mission that pushed me to complete the hunting one, probably was between what she was expecting, she nodded and seemed to be pondering about something.

'What happens if you fail a mission?'.

"I'm not sure, there was a mission with a specific punishment if I failed, but the others didn't have one, but there was always something bad in one way or another If I didn't do it. There was this time that I talked with the system, and it explained to me that there was 2 reason to get a mission, our safety, and my wishes".

'And since taking care of Jamie is not something you want to do you think it can be involved with our safety?'.

"To be honest I'm not sure about it. I think that is the most possible answer, there is also the possibility that the system thinks that a part of me doesn't like what Jamie is doing, but in that case, the time limit makes no sense".

'You think that he will become more dangerous when the time ends?'

"I don't know but the only thing I can do is do the mission, thus in these two days I want to hunt enough beasts to complete the mission and start working towards Jamie's mission".

'Are you planning on doing it alone?'

"I have to, neither Hayley nor Hope are going to be ready so fast, and I don't think they can go against humans anyway, so you in astral form is going to be the only one at my side".

'I wish I could be more useful'. She sighed

"You are useful, and who knows just as you can fly now there is the possibility of you discovering something new soon". This seemed to cheer her up a little, but we both know that she wasn't going to be ready to fight sooner than them.

I continued to hunt and moved carefully again this time towards the center of the town, it would be amazing if I had a way to know if an animal was a ranked beast or not. I didn't find the remaining goat or the sheep this time. I was looking for a beast alone to try to fight it on melee, I was planning on observing it for a while first to figure out what kind of power it had.

To be honest, the last battle was a great disappointment. Shooting from distance was easy, I never was in real danger. The battle was just like a boring shooting practice. I understand that not all my fights should be like the one with the alligator or the crow, where I could feel the adrenaline and the danger of the moment pushing my limits to survive.

The other reason is that even If I had the upper hand all the time, I almost fall for the sheep sleeping power. I discussed this with Rose and she told that she didn't felt sleepy, so the power at least just affected me.

Therefore, I won a boring and easy battle and almost fail in the process because of a weird power.

As I was moving I found a calf roaming alone and started to follow it with the help of Rose. I kept my distance trying to figure out if it had an ability or not. After tailing it for half an hour with difficulty I couldn't see anything abnormal on it, since it was normal as far I see change my target.

When I found a large group of beasts I would hide on an empty apartment till they went away. It was really weird, last time we came there was people peeking all the time, but now there were no humans around. Probably a part of the survivors also were killed by them, but according to what I saw when I came into this part of the city the first time there should be more people. Rose confirmed my thoughts when she commented that there was no one inside the buildings either.

The constant peeking through the windows wasn't there anymore, I think I saw one or two in all this time.

I prefer it this way but also, I can stop thinking about what happened to everyone.

The first mission was something I thought would appear after I noticed the situation, but the second mission was completely unexpected.

But it was also an important source of information, the time limit wouldn't be that low if he wasn't at least here in Green Lodge. Since I was waiting for a group of pigs to pass while waiting I told Rose about the new missions.

'Accept a proposal from Dr. Harting, is he here?'. The first mission didn't surprise her either.

"That's what it looks like".

'Have you seen him?'

"No, I didn't even know he was here"

'Do you think he is in a group of survivors with that guy Ian?'.

"That makes sense".

The fact that the mission was to accept his offer means that he knew I was here, this could mean that he had some kind of power like clairvoyance or precognition that told him. The other option was that someone told him, and the only person that knew me that could have told him was Ian.

If that's the case he probably was in the same group as him, that means that the offer may be related to one of the two big groups in the city center.

'Do you think he would ask for us to join his group or something like that?'

"It's possible, I don't know what else can be"

I think he will appear by himself in the future if he is either in that groups or has a power he will find me eventually. As for the other new mission I have more time to deal with it that with Jamie's, but I can check a few places to see if I discover anything while hunting.

I was able to get a little luckier I think. While looking for a lone beast we found a boar, boars are obviously not a farm animal, but it can be an evolved form of a pig, so it had a high possibility of being a ranked beast.

I discovered that while fighting in close range was better for me, I'm not sure if a weapon like a knife was the best to go against these beasts. I prepared a penetrating bolt and loaded it on the crossbow. This time I was going to fight on the streets to see how good is my mobility.

I waited for a while for the best moment to attack, the bolt hit perfectly however because of the thick skin it couldn't make a huge wound. The bolt could be seen protruding from his back and it started to squeal after it got hit.

The boar charged at me and I found out its power, some variation of agility enhancement. The boar was fast enough that if it wasn't for my reflexes and my new perk I would never have dodged it. I jumped and used the boar as footing to make a second jump pass over him.

The boar shook his head after I used it to jump. And I used that moment to load another bolt. I tried to think about pigs and their weak points but I had no way to know that. Since it's charging probably the head is hard enough that it could mean a just a lost bolt. And the skin on its back thick enough that none of the bolts I shot there would cause a wound big enough to kill it.

Hitting an eye with that speed wasn't something realistic either if someone I was able to hit the throat would be good but since it was on the lower part unless I prone it was a difficult shot.

In the time I was thinking the boar attacked me once again, this time I had a wall behind me so when I moved away the boar crashed. The force of the impact was enough to destroy part of the wall and make the building tremble.

From inside the building, a scream came out. Rose flew inside the building, she checked most of the buildings before so the presence of someone inside was completely out of our expectations.

'There is a little girl in here!!'.
