176 Focused Healing

"Spencer?"

A voice called me out from the side as I was about to enter the room where I was going to work with Dante.

"Hi, doing your rounds?"

I'm not that familiar with her job, but after spending some time here, I have a rough idea of it.

"Yes, I just left Johanna's room."

"How is she doing?"

"She fine and about to be discharged. Are you here to see at Ines and Frederick?"

"Mainly Ines I want to see her condition myself, have you seen Dante?"

'I'm here.'

Just as I asked I saw a kitten strolling with a snake at his side toward us. Isabella looked at us with some doubts.

"What are you two planning?"

I thought for a second, she already knows almost everything about me, so there was no harm in telling her about the mission.

"There is a mission we need to complete with Dante. Between him and I, there is a special connection, we have to "achieve" the next level on that connection. We want to try something with Ines and see if there is a way to help her."

That was the first plan.

After a long talk with Rose and Dante, we all agreed that trying to use an amplified version of mind reading would be almost useless, so we have to find a way to amplify another of my abilities. The key to achieving resonance was working on the same goal.

After getting that answer, we had some plans and ideas the first idea was using a mix of time power and Dante's mind power to bring back Ines mind and brain to the state it was before the attack.

It was a long shot for various reasons. To achieve resonance we have to pour all we got into it, and as much as I want to help Ines, she is not anyone that I actually knew before she got hurt. I felt a little guilty because she was my replacement at the time, but besides that, there is no connection between us, and for Dante was the same.

The second reason is that it was a weird mix of abilities, in the paper made sense but there was no real reason for it to actually work. As far as I know, the physical and mind aspects of a human being are connected, but I don't think that is as simple as that… also, my control of time heal is not good enough to go back so much time either.

This was the first and easiest option, we have a couple of other ideas, but this is the safest one. We don't have that much time left, but I'm sure that if this doesn't work, we will find another way to do it.

"Really?"

The doctors had said that she was most likely to never wake up, so she was happy to know that more things could be done.

"Don't be so happy, there are large probabilities that this will not work."

This was not the right mindset for trying this, but I had to lower her expectations before I start. Otherwise, she will be disappointed if this doesn't work.

"Sorry, it's just that I thought that she would lay there forever."

"I know, but I don't want to give false hopes to anyone. Tell me about her condition it might help to know more about it."

She nodded and started talking as we went into the room.

"She has two major injuries in her head."

She started her usual check up on her. My eyes could only show me that there was a problem in her head, probably thanks to her ability she was able to tell this much now.

"The first one probably was from the sneak attack in the zone of the cerebellum, when she fell she hit her head in the temporal lobe."

As Isabella explained her theory to me, she was showing me the area that she was talking about the back of her head and one of the sides near the ear.

"Wouldn't this attack affect her spine?"

As I showed her the one in the back of Ines's head.

"It should, but I wasn't there so I can't explain how it was done."

I tried using my eyes to differentiate the hits, but I wasn't able to do it.

"You can see each area of the brain independently?"

"Yes, you can't?"

"No, the number of points that I can see are a lot less than yours I think."

As we were talking, she finished doing her usual routine with Ines. Out of respect she didn't bath her and was going to do it later, in the meantime she checked on Frederick.

I approached Ines. This was the first time I saw her after she was brought back to Green Shelter. My eyes weren't my only sense, so I touched her head and tried to figure out something else, but nothing worked.

Dante was next to me looking and trying to work on her too.

After a while, I started to do what I came for. I analyzed her superficial thoughts as I used time heal…

Dante explained a couple of thing to me, and I tried to focus my power on her head. After about 25 minutes of hard work for me under what can only be called Dante's supervision, I managed to discover that I might be able to help her… but so far there are no signals of our powers synergizing each other.

Unfortunately, it would take days uninterrupted work to heal Ines back to normal. Dante's power was not able to help mine that much on this. She had two problems one was physical, and the other was a half severed connection between her body and mind. Dante can work on the second one. To heal her it would be far more effective a healing power like Dana's working simultaneously with Dante.

The way my healing power worked would help because it would return everything to how it was before the connection was severed. So it made Dante's participation meaningless.

I didn't want to disappoint Isabella, but at least I have two theories about how to help Ines right now. The first was never going to happen, Dana and Dante working together might be able to achieve something, they have compatible powers for what I thought was the right way to do it.

The second was waiting for me to upgrade my power and knowledge.

One thing that I learned was that I was able to focus my time healing.

Usually, we can think of it as a rewind. To achieve that I have to spend about 5 minutes to bring a human being's body back ten minutes. After that, I need about 10 minutes to recover and use it again. Because of this, I can't go farther than 10 minutes with the heal.

But I noticed that when I used it in a localized area, it took less time. In this case 2 and a half minutes the recovery time was also reduced. Using it multiple times I might break the time limit of ten minutes, but it was a slow and tiring process.

If I can't upgrade this ability then I have another idea, and that is to improve my eyes and focus the healing more, the rewind speed and the recovery time will then be enhanced if used on a smaller area.

"Can you help her?"

"Right now I can't do it, but I have an idea for it."

"From your looks, I think that is something dangerous…"

"Is not, it's, just that one of the options involves Dana using her power, so it's a big no."

I could see in her eyes that she didn't agree with that either. It was clear that she rejected it the moment she heard about it. Of course, I didn't want to use Dana either, so I just mentioned it because she asked.

"What about the other option?"

"It will take time because I need to improve my abilities. Right now it would take days of continuous work for me to achieve the moment I can do something for her."

"I'm sorry, but I don't want Dana to do it. If she starts doing it, they might want us to use her more and more, and I'm not willing to do it. Today is Ines, but tomorrow it can be anyone else…"

"Don't worry I agree with you, I'll go hit the library to try to improve my eyes in the meantime."

"Ok… and thanks for not forcing Dana to help."

"That was the first condition I added when we came here, and I'm not planning to break it, we are kind of a family, right?"

She smiled and thanked me again before kicking me out to clean Frederick and Ines. Apparently, I delayed her rounds a little bit, but knowing that there might be a way to help one of her patients was enough compensation.

I spent the rest of the afternoon reading anatomy and medicine books, it wasn't only because of Ines, during a battle if I'm able to heal someone's injuries faster it would be a considerable improvement in our survival chances.
