"He's not here," I said putting her out of her misery.
"No? I don't believe you," she replied with panic in her voice as she ran up the stairs to my bedroom.
I strolled around to the coffee pot and set up a fresh batch to brew then I walked over to the sofa and sat down. Coral came to the top of the landing when she didn't find Len upstairs. "Has he been here?" she asked quietly.
"He has," I replied not willing to lie about what had happened between us.
Trotting down the stairs she came over and stood in front of me with a look of panic in her eyes. "He did? And did you..."
"Look, take a seat, sweetheart," I offered and gestured at the sofa beside me. Coral reluctantly sat, nervously twisting a ring on her middle finger. I didn't want to hurt her, neither did Len, but I felt telling her the truth was the right thing to do.
"You didn't answer," she said, quietly.
