Chapter Five:

Adeline felt a lump in her throat as she stared at Jack. She had no idea he was married before. She felt confused and hurt, like he had been hiding something from her.

"I don't know what to do," Jack said, his eyes searching hers. "I love spending time with you, Adeline. But I also have a history with her, and it's complicated."

Adeline tried to keep her voice steady as she spoke. "I understand if you need time to figure things out. But I can't keep seeing you if you're not over her."

Jack nodded, silently. They fell asleep in each other's arms, both feeling lost.
