Chapter Eight

The Phone Call.

...................

While I was in my hotel room thinking about what to do with my miserable life. I wasn't myself anymore. It's just a shadow of myself. Should I escape in the air or should the ground open up and swallow me?

I remembered my father's piece of advice. Had I known, I would've listened to my father, but I refused to. Will my parents ever give me a good face if I tell them what has happened to me?

A lot of questions bombard my mind. I sobbed warm tears and told God to turn to my path and perfect my ways. Because I only did what I did just for the woman I loved and cared for.

Was it a crime for me to marry someone from a military background? Where have I gone wrong? I muttered in a teary tone as I heard a knock banging on my door.

Instantly, my heart skip, inside my heart I thought the force are here to get me arrested.

"Who is that?" I asked when I had observed. A lady's voice echoed in my ear,

"It's your room service. Please, I've got some information for you, sir." She replied back. Oh my God! What kind of information would that be? I exclaimed and let her come inside to deliver the information.

She held a brown envelope in her palm as she handed it over to me, a broad smile lit on her countenance.

"A military personnel came to deliver this letter to us directed to give to you." She continued, pulling out a blue pen from her pocket at the side of her orange breast and handing it to me, "please you have to sign it," I quickly crafted my signature. She smiled and walked away.

Did she just mention military personnel? That must be one of the General's troops that he has sent to check on his daughter. What will I tell him if he finally finds out? How will I even position my mouth to explain exactly what happened? Will he ever believe or trust me?

I thought as I pulled out the white sheet of paper from inside the brown envelope and widened the body of the letter. I stood perplexed at the glimpse of what my eyes beheld.

He wrote:

...

Good day, Mr. Edwin Amos.

How are you and your family?

Without wasting much of your time, let me get straight to the point.

I've received the sad news about my precious daughter. The young man who came to deliver the news to me proved to know much about you, stating that you're a bad egg. Well, you already know who I am. I am the Army General of this great nation. I do not care to know where you've taken my daughter to; all I want is for you to humbly get her released before I unleash my desire of action on you and your family.

For your information, I know where you are right now, which is why I've sent you this warning note, and besides, I can easily fish you out if in your mind you think you can pamper with my family and want to escape. I am a peaceful general but very heartless and not a respecter of any kind. When I am done with you, you'll realize that you've just stepped on my toes.

I am giving you just five days to provide my daughter, or else you have just 24 hours to live in a day. Good-bye!

Signed: Gen. Maxwell Wilson

...

I had the greatest shock of my life after reading the content of the letter. How possibly did the information get to the General so soon? Who will that person be without a name? Oh, only God knew I am a very honest and God-fearing man who has no intention of doing evil to others.

I've literally dug a graveyard for myself. I had no other option but to phone my parents and inform them of the trauma.

"Didn't I warn you? Now, look at where you've landed yourself. I am highly disappointed in you, Edwin. You want to ruin my reputation and rub shame on the image of this humble family. " My father's angry voice echoed loudly on the loud speaker as he hung up the end.

"Hello, are you on the line?" I asked, only to get no response from the other end. I threw myself on the bed and sat down very agitated over what I'd done to myself. What exactly would I even tell the General to make him believe me? kept running inside my mind.

At that moment, my phone beeped. I quickly reached out to it and ogled at the caller. Sarah, who appeared on the screen, Tay's girlfriend.

Why will she be calling my line now? From the day I left the house, I've never received a call from any of them. What is really good about the day? My mind was racing with questions, but no one was around to answer them.
